When most women think about exercise, they think about:
• burning calories
• losing weight
• changing how their body looks

Those can all be worthwhile goals.

But I think one of the greatest benefits of exercise is something we don't talk about enough.

Every time you show up, lift a little heavier, or finish a workout you weren't sure you could...

You're collecting evidence.

Evidence that you're capable.
That your body is adaptable.
That you can do hard things.

Over time, that changes how you see yourself.

And that confidence doesn't stay in the gym.

It shows up at work, in your relationships, and when life gets stressful.

During perimenopause, when many women tell me they don't feel like themselves anymore, strength training can become a powerful way to rebuild trust in your body.

💬 What has exercise given you that has nothing to do with weight?

06/15/2026

One of the biggest shifts I made in my own health journey was moving away from a “weight loss” mindset and toward a “body composition” mindset.

Because when we’re constantly focused on shrinking ourselves, it’s easy to miss what we’re actually trying to create.

For me, that’s:
✔️ strength to do the things I love
✔️ muscle to support metabolism and healthy aging
✔️ energy to keep up with my family
✔️ resilience through life’s challenges
✔️ long-term health and independence

The scale doesn’t measure most of those things.
But they matter.

💬 What are you trying to build right now?

I learned that message early.

From magazines.
From advertising.
From the culture around me.

Either way, it stuck.

Even now, negative thoughts about my body occasionally show up.

But I've learned that those thoughts aren't always mine.

Often, they're inherited expectations that don't align with my values.

These days, I'm choosing:
✨ Strength
✨ Health
✨ Energy
✨ Joy

And letting the rest go.

The older I get, the more my goals have shifted from appearance to function.

Strength.
Energy.
Resilience.
Longevity.

The way my body looks matters far less to me than what it allows me to do.

💬 Has your perspective on health changed as you’ve gotten older?

Confession: I use AI all the time.

For copywriting.
For helping me organize my thoughts.
For planning presentations and webinars.
And yes, occasionally for dinner inspiration. 😅

And I think it can be a fantastic tool for health information too.

But when it comes to health, I see one big challenge.

Most women aren't struggling because they can't find information.

They're struggling because they're drowning in it.

Podcasts.
Books.
Instagram.
ChatGPT.
Google.
Friends.
Healthcare providers.

And sometimes the advice conflicts.

In fact, if you've ever asked two different AI tools the same health question, you've probably noticed they don't always give the same answer.

So the real challenge becomes:
What information actually applies to me?
What should I focus on first?
What's most likely to move the needle?

That's where I think experienced clinicians still play an important role.

Because good healthcare isn't just about having information.

It's about interpreting that information accurately and applying it to the person sitting in front of you.

Most women don't need another article, podcast, or AI-generated health plan.

They need clarity. They need a place to start.

And often, they need someone to help them cut through the noise and build a strategy that makes sense for their body.

💬 Have you used AI for health questions? What was your experience?

Getting professional photos taken is not exactly in my comfort zone, but this week’s photoshoot reminded me of something important:

It’s a lot easier to show up as your best self when you have the right people supporting you.

A huge thank you to:
📸 for making the entire experience feel easy and fun.
👗 for helping me choose outfits that felt authentic and aligned with my brand.
💇‍♀️ .bylillian for helping me feel polished and confident.

And a special thank you to the incredible women I work alongside at . While they’re not featured in these photos, they’re a big part of why I love what I do.

I’m grateful every day to work with a team that is supportive, collaborative, and genuinely committed to helping people feel their best.

As I was reflecting on the day, it struck me that this lesson extends far beyond a photoshoot.

Whether it’s your health, your career, your relationships, or your business, it’s often not about trying harder.

It’s about having the right support.

One of the biggest mistakes I see is assuming that skin and hair changes after 40 are "just aging."

While aging absolutely plays a role, hormones, metabolic health, nutrition, sleep, and stress can all influence how these changes show up, and how quickly they progress.

That doesn't mean skincare products and treatments don't work.

They absolutely can.

But in many cases, the best results come when we support both the root and the branch at the same time.

A retinoid can help stimulate collagen production.

Hair treatments can support the hair follicle.

But your body still needs the building blocks to respond.

That's why I think of healthy aging as both an inside and an outside job.

This was one of the key topics we discussed in our recent webinar, Skin, Hair & Hormones After 40.

Things often start to feel a little different after 40.

Drier skin.
More visible fine lines.
Changes in hair texture or shedding.

Not because you’re imagining it.
And not always “just aging.”

Hormonal shifts during perimenopause affect far more than most women realize, including skin, hair, collagen, hydration, and recovery.

Tomorrow, Chantal and I are talking about what’s actually changing and the different ways women can support themselves through this transition.

Some women are interested in treatments.
Others prefer a more minimal approach.
Most fall somewhere in between.

The goal is not perfection.
It’s understanding your options and choosing what feels right for you.

One of my favourite assessment tools in practice is the InBody body composition scan.

Not because it tells us someone’s weight.
But because it tells us so much more than that.

Especially during perimenopause and menopause, many women notice:
- changes in body composition
- stubborn weight changes
- lower energy
- reduced strength
- changes in metabolic health

And often, the scale alone doesn’t explain what’s actually happening.

The InBody helps us look at things like:
- muscle mass
- fat distribution
- hydration and metabolic health trends

Because healthy aging is not just about losing weight.

It’s about maintaining:
- strength
- muscle
- resilience
- metabolic health
- long-term quality of life

This is one of the reasons I focus so much on body composition and metabolic health in midlife women.

The goal isn’t perfection.
It’s understanding your body more clearly so you can support it more intentionally.

I’m excited to be co-hosting a webinar on Tuesday June 2nd with Chantal from

Skin, Hair & Hormones After 40: What’s Changing and What You Can Do

We’ll be talking about:
✔ what’s happening internally during perimenopause and menopause
✔ why these changes show up in the skin and hair
✔ external treatment options available
✔ and the foundational habits that support healthy aging from the inside out

There are more options than ever before, from simple daily habits to professional treatments, and understanding what’s happening helps you decide what feels right for you.
