Bloom Clinic

Bloom Clinic A program that offers treatment, care and support for persons infected/affected by Hepatitis C and/or HIV in the Region of Peel.

In February 2010 the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care (MOHLTC) implemented its Hepatitis C Strategy. The strategy created 16 Hepatitis C Virus (HCV) Teams across Ontario to ensure a coordinated, comprehensive approach to the treatment and support of those living with or those at risk of acquiring Hepatitis C. The MOHLTC AIDS and Hepatitis C Programs (AIDS/HEP C Program) approached Bramalea Co

mmunity Health Centre (Bramalea CHC) to operate an HCV team. On April 1, 2012, Bramalea CHC began operating Bloom Clinic to serve people living with or at risk of acquiring HCV and/or HIV. Bloom’s target populations include the street involved, injection drug users and newcomers from endemic countries.

31 August marks International Overdose Awareness Day. It's a time to educate people on the effects of addiction and remember those we've lost to overdose.

It is the world’s largest annual campaign to end overdose. The campaign spreads the message about the tragedy of drug overdose death and that drug overdose is preventable.

The goals of International Overdose Awareness Day are:

To provide an opportunity for people to publicly mourn loved ones.
To send a strong message to people who use drugs and people in recovery that they are valued.
To inform people around the world about the risk of drug overdose.
To provide basic information on the range of support services that are available.
To prevent and reduce drug-related harm by supporting evidence-based practice.

Today we commemorate Prsioner Justice Day. August 10th is internationally recognized as Prisoners’ Justice Day (PJD). PJD is a day to remember people who have died preventable deaths in prison. It is also a day to show solidarity with those who organize against inhumane conditions in prison.

Gender is often left out of discussions about prison. But it is important to understand the intersectional connections between gender, class, and race in Ontario women’s prisons and women's expriences in the prison system.

Take a moment today to learn, reflect and commit to understanding and addressing the impacts of prisons on individuals, families and communities.
