Let’s talk about downsizing!
If you’ve been pierced at my studio before, you’ve probably been told to come back for a check-up within 2-3 weeks after getting pierced, not only do I want to take that opportunity to just check the general health of the piercing, but also want to see if you're ready for a downsize! A downsize is simply a brand new shorter post.
When the piercing is only days to weeks old inflammation is present, that’s why I set you up with a longer post! If the post is too small the body continues to swell, not only does it hurt, you can experience embedding, bleeding, and in some cases, if left as is, the skin could grow over. If you find your post isn’t sitting right, or it feels too tight please reach out as soon as possible so I can quickly fix you up!
On average I notice swelling is gone within 3-4 weeks, however, it can range from person to person. While the jewelry is long it's very important to try and not sleep on that side. Pressure for hours on hours can actually cause the piercing to shift or migrate and once it finds that new angle it’s stuck like that! The only way to fix it would be to remove the jewelry, letting it heal and repiercing later. Taking all the preventative steps you can is crucial! A little tip; you can use a travel neck pillow to sleep on for ear piercings, put your ear in the hole and now you’ll be able to sleep comfortably. Once your piercing is downsized, you’ll notice an overall increase in comfort. Remember to stay up with proper aftercare to keep your piercing happy and healthy.
