Preparing for my Netflix documentary about the reality of care planning... 🎬

No one prepares you for how much goes into it, and a lot happens behind the scenes that families don’t always see.
There are phone calls, research, appointments, paperwork, and hard conversations. Moments of trying to figure out what’s best for someone you love.

Care planning and coordination isn’t just about arranging services, but getting to know a person and their routines, stories, needs, and what makes them feel comfortable.

So until Netflix calls... we’ll keep showing up, helping families navigate the process, and making sure care feels personal. 🧡

Thank you to those who attend the social club today and to Aspira Brants Landing Retirement Living for hosting!

Michelle Dekker, RSSW • Senior Care & Transitions first started these groups with grant funding for community initiatives with the intention to have a non-task bask social group for our aging population that focused on connection, accessibility and visibility.

Since then we’ve hosted countless groups utilizing independent funding and community sponsorships, and helped connect dozens of Brantford & Brant County residents to each other as well as important resources.

I balance to put my shoes on relatively often, but doing so with intention and focus is a whole other ball game!

Balancing on one leg challenges more than just your muscles. It requires your brain, vision, inner ear, and body to work together to maintain stability and coordination.

As we age, practicing balance is one way to help maintain mobility, confidence, and independence.

Safety first: If you feel unsteady, hold onto a wall, chair, or countertop for support.

Small, intentional challenges like this can be a great way to keep both your brain and body engaged.

Give this brain health tip a try! It feels VERY awkward and uncomfortable at first 😅

Our brains love efficiency and routine, so we do many daily tasks on autopilot. Switching to your non-dominant hand forces your brain to pay attention and coordinate movement in a new way.

Regularly learning new skills, varying your routines and finding novelty in daily experiences may help support neuroplasticity, your brain’s ability to adapt and form new connections.

I’m starting a Brain Health Tip series where I’ll be sharing simple, science-informed ways to challenge your brain and support healthy aging.
