11 years ago I witnessed birth for the first time.
I watched my sister go from maiden to mother, finding her strength as she went through induction, laboured all night, and birthed a 10 lb baby (alllll unmedicated, might I add). It lit a fire in me as I discovered birth is not something to be feared. Birth is powerful.
It gave me empathy for partners and spouses as I saw my dear sister, whom I love so much and would do anything for, in pain. And because I didn’t know what I know now, there was nothing I could do to ease her pain. I just waited at her side in awe.
Truthfully, I was a pretty terrible “doula” at the time but my sister is so gracious.
It moved me to tears then and has every time since.
(Fair warning, I’ll probably cry at your birth even today 😅).
This sweet girl and my sister’s invitation changed the course of my life forever. I will always remember this day.
Happy Birthday, sweet girl! Aunty loves you more than you know. ❤️
