Education, training, and knowledge come in handy with any sector, but in health-care it is important to understand the importance of evolving trends and updates in best practices for those in our care.

This week, Tammy and Becky, two of our leadership team members attended two days of training and education, sponsored by CCANS (Continuing Care Association of Nova Scotia) in the areas of;

1) Leadership-- Sense and Sense-Civility
2) The Remedy-- Building on Progress, Shaping the Future
3) Roundtable discussion (Disability Support Programs)
4) Responsible Artificial Intelligence in Healthcare -- What Leaders Need to Know
5) Legal Updates in Continuing Care

Between classes, they took advantage of the grounds at the Old Ochard Inn in Wolfville, taking in the natural beauty around them.

Peers in this sectors are supportive, encouraging, and collaborative....and we like that :)

Wow, we have been busy in our community ;)

1) Good weather means we are able to do a little bit of yard clean-up around our living space, making us feel accomplished and proud of our handy work. We find June to be a good time to officially kick off summer BBQ-ing with friends 🍔🔥

2) We recently took advantage of the good weather by renovating a fire escape to ensure resident safety. 🦺🏠

3) At the Hub and Supported Community Living Options Homes, we have been busy baking, learning, and discovering science. We enjoy trying new recipes and sharing the delicious outcomes with friends🎂🧁 We always look forward to walks in nature with support staff, helping us identify wildlife while learning about the ecosystem and environment 🐢🐸🦎 We also learn many new things when we visit festivals and other communities like we did at the Apple Festival in Annapolis Valley last weekend 🍎🍏

4) We love our lunch with friends outings because it allows us to purchase our own food, experience eating in a restaurant, and make decisions about what we like to eat while making memories with people we care about. 🥣🍕🍔🍗🍦🥤

5) At the ARC, we always enjoy our time together, feeling the sun on our face as we chat with friends and laugh 😃 🌞👨‍🦽👩‍🦽

We are on the move again! We don't like to remain idle for long ;)

Watch us rolling into Peggy's Cove like pros 😎

Community outings with support helps us grow in all areas of our physical and mental health through fresh air, connections, and independence in decision-making.

We love where we live....Nova Scotia ❤️ The ocean waves provide us with consistent salty air and water spray that tickles our face with joy when we visit. The ocean is like an old friend, calling us to it, holding space for our thoughts and peace of mind.

Inclusion is connecting to what brings us closer to communities and people 🥰

Remember those few days in May when the sun was shining and warm? Yah, it can be hard to believe, we have entered the month of June and still looking for the warm rays 🌞 Today gives us hope 😊

Well, last month, we enjoyed some sun and fun at the Family Funday at the MARC in Dayspring. The clouds were fluffy, the food was good, and the warm breeze was perfect for kite flying 🪁🪁

Participating in community events helps us transition into the community of our choice when preparing for independent living.

Sunday Funday in Annapolis Valley 😊

Residents in one of our Supported Community Living Options Homes enjoyed a trip to Annapolis Valley to take in annual Apple Blossom Festival events. It is that time of year, when apple blossoms create a beautiful natural backdrop of color and scent as we wait patiently for apples to make their appearance, ready to be picked and eaten 🌸 🍎🍏

Community events like festivals are a great way to explore, learn, and socialize outside of our immediate circle.

At Balsam, we celebrated our first Friday night karaoke with staff and persons served belting out the lyrics to some of their favorite songs while moving and grooving 🕺💃🕶🎤
