Making memories… and recognizing the little reminders that come with them.

Years ago, my Mom helped me clean out our basement. I remember finding pennies upon pennies and sweeping them into a dustpan.

Mom gathered them up, looked at me and said, “It takes pennies to make the dollar.”

Those simple words stayed with me.

This week, we went trail riding at Evangeline Trails. As I reached for a riding helmet, something made me look down.

There was a penny.

I picked it up, grabbed a helmet, and swallowed the lump in my throat.

Was it just a penny? Maybe.

But to me, it was a memory. A little nudge. A quiet reminder from someone I love who has gone home into Spirit.

I believe our loved ones continue to find little ways to remind us of them. A song, a scent, a feather, a familiar number, a dream… or sometimes, simply a penny waiting exactly where we need to find it.

They may no longer walk beside us in the way they once did, but their love doesn’t disappear.

Their whispers are always heard when our hearts are willing to listen.

Make the memories. Treasure the moments. And when those little reminders come… pause, smile, and know that love never truly leaves us.
