💙 A Gift of Comfort, in Memory of Gary Hynes 💙

Today, we were grateful to receive a $444 donation from the Gary Hynes Memorial Softball Tournament, held in mid-August.

A heartfelt thank you to Anita Hynes for bringing in this special donation, and to everyone who participated, volunteered, helped out, or supported the event. We are so grateful that Gary’s memory continues to bring people together and give back to our community. ❤️

The $444 donation will support Palliative Care Baskets for families spending precious time with a loved one in the Palliative Care Unit. These baskets provide simple comforts like muffins, tea buns, tea, coffee, water and other refreshments, delivered from the cafeteria directly to families.

When someone you love is receiving palliative care, even the smallest things can make a difference. Having food and refreshments nearby means families can stay close, spend more time together, and focus on what matters most without having to leave the unit.

Thank you to Anita and everyone involved in the Gary Hynes Memorial Softball Tournament for turning a special day of remembrance into comfort and care for other families in our community. 💙

🍔🍟 Recreation Highlight: A Sweet Trip to Dairy Queen! 🍦💙

There’s nothing quite like a little road trip and a tasty treat!

Some of the residents of Blue Crest Nursing Home recently hopped aboard the residents’ bus and travelled to Marystown for a visit to Dairy Queen, their first time checking it out since it opened! From burgers and fries to a day out together, it was certainly enjoyed by all. 😊

Outings like this are just one of the many ways recreation programming brings fun, connection and new experiences to residents in our local long-term care homes.

We are so grateful to the many individuals, families, businesses and community groups who continue to donate in support of recreation programming. Your generosity helps make days like this possible. 💙

Donations help support:
🚌 Community outings and day trips
🎶 Musical entertainment
🍽️ Monthly Diner’s Club Socials
🎲 Bingo and resident activities
🌷 Garden parties and seasonal celebrations
🥰And so many other opportunities for residents to get together, have fun and enjoy something special!

Thank you for helping us continue to create these moments for residents throughout the Burin Peninsula. 💙

🎓 Congratulations to Our 2026 Scholarship Recipients! 🎓

The Burin Peninsula Health Care Foundation is very pleased to congratulate Alyssa Dober and Keegan Mallay, recipients of our 2026 BPHCF Scholarships, each valued at $500! 💙

We truly enjoyed reading this year’s applications and learning about the incredible young people from our communities who are pursuing their education and future careers in healthcare.

Alyssa Dober is currently attending Dalhousie University, where she is pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Medical Sciences. This summer, Alyssa has also been busy gaining valuable experience working in research at Memorial University. Pictured, Alyssa is receiving her scholarship from BPHCF Board Chair Debbie Linehan.

Keegan Mallay completed her Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Psychology this past May and is continuing her education at Memorial University, pursuing studies in Public Health, with a particular interest in the social determinants of health. Keegan was unable to join us for the presentation, but we are equally pleased to recognize and celebrate her achievement!

Both Alyssa and Keegan have also demonstrated a wonderful commitment to their communities through their volunteer involvement. They have already accomplished so much, and there is certainly lots to be proud of! 🌟

Please join us in congratulating Alyssa and Keegan and wishing them continued success as they pursue their education and future careers. We are so pleased to support two young people from our communities as they work toward making a difference in the health and well-being of others.

Congratulations, Alyssa and Keegan! We can’t wait to see where your journeys take you. 💙

A BIG THANK YOU TO OUR 2026 GOLF FORE HEALTHCARE SPONSORS! 💚

Our Golf FORE Healthcare: Men’s Health Open would not be possible without the incredible businesses, organizations and community partners who continue to step up in support of healthcare here on the Burin Peninsula.

To each and every sponsor featured here, thank you. Your continued support means the world to us. When our community comes together like this, you help us invest in equipment, programs and services that make a real difference for patients and families right here at home.

And this year, there’s even more excitement waiting on the course! 👀⛳️

🚗 Hickman Motors is putting a $20,000 Hole-in-One Cash Prize on Hole #7! One perfect shot could make for a VERY memorable day for one of our golfers! They’re also sponsoring a $2,500 Putting Contest, giving our golfers another chance to walk away with an incredible prize!

We are so grateful to Hickman Motors for adding these exciting opportunities to this year’s tournament, and to all of our sponsors for helping make Golf FORE Healthcare possible year after year. 🥰

Every sponsorship, contribution and show of support helps us continue doing what this event is all about... and enhancing healthcare closer to home.💚

We can’t wait to see everyone on the course on September 12th! ⛳️

🩷 A Farewell & A Warm Welcome at The Legacy Gift Shop! 🩷

This week brings a little bit of change to The Legacy Gift Shop as we say goodbye to one wonderful staff member and welcome another!

After eight weeks with us, our summer student Amanda Kavanagh is finishing up her time at the Gift Shop. Amanda has been such a lovely part of our team this summer, helping us through our first weeks of operating the shop and always greeting our customers with a friendly smile. 🛍️💕

As Amanda heads back to university this fall to continue her studies in Speech-Language Pathology, we want to thank her for everything she has contributed over the past eight weeks and wish her all the very best in the year ahead. We know there are great things ahead for you, Amanda! 🎓🩷

At the same time, we’re very happy to welcome Luna Kirby to our Gift Shop team! Luna has been training alongside Amanda this week and will officially begin her new role with us on Monday. We’re excited to have her join us and look forward to having another friendly face behind the counter at The Legacy Gift Shop! 😊

Please join us in wishing Amanda all the best as she returns to university, and Luna all the best as she begins this new journey with us! 💛

Thank you, Amanda, and welcome, Luna! 🥰

☕💙 Supporting Connection Through Memory Cafés 💙☕

We are incredibly grateful to Tina Belliveau and Co-operators for their generous $5,000 sponsorship of our Memory Cafés Program!

Our Memory Cafés will provide welcoming, supportive spaces for people living with dementia and their caregivers to come together, connect with others, enjoy activities and conversation, and build a sense of community in a relaxed environment.

This generous support from Co-operators will help us bring Memory Cafés to communities throughout the Burin Peninsula, helping reduce isolation and creating meaningful opportunities for connection for both individuals living with dementia and those who care for them.

📸 Pictured is Tina Belliveau of Co-operators, presenting the $5,000 sponsorship to the Burin Peninsula Health Care Foundation Chair, Debbie Linehan.

Thank you, Tina and Co-operators, for believing in this program and helping us create caring, connected spaces for families throughout our communities. Your support will make a meaningful difference! 💙☕
