💉Artificially providing GLP-1 in higher quantities than normal will cause patients to produce less GLP-1 of their own, naturally.

❓Why would the body produce its own GLP-1 when it is full of it already?

Problems are not seen when taking the drugs, but as soon as we withdraw this GLP-1 ‘fix', appetite is no longer kept in check, and overeating occurs.

❗️That is why people gain the weight back 4 times faster after GLP-1 than they do after caloric restriction alone.

Evolutionary psychology and survival instincts may not seem relevant to our modern way of eating, but they are. At least I think so.

Scientifically, we already know the stomach and the brain have a special relationship, and we’ve known this for a while. It's such old news that we forget its relevance. Nutrition, anxiety and our nervous system are tightly connected and they can all impact our daily lives, moods and choices.

Weight loss diets and drugs will improve only the markers of nutrition.

Any type of dieting exhausts the sugar, salt and fat that floats around in the blood since everything is being used up for energy for survival and there is nothing left for building muscles, tissues or the immune system.

Starving yourself artificially reduces the amount of sugar, salt and fat from your blood by removing it temporarily because it is all used up.

The minute the diet ends, the numbers come back with a vengeance. Hence, they are not improving nutritional status (and health) itself.

Improving nutrition is the only way to improve nutrition and health.

This book has been living in my heart (and my laptop) for a while now. Still a work in progress, but too special not to start sharing little pieces of it with you.

Here’s one to start:

“It can be hard to separate the truth from the garbage. How many times have you heard "Carbs are bad!"? It's a common claim in our diet-obsessed society. Complex carbs are not bad — (simple sugars? That's different!) since when digested, they turn into glucose which allows the brain and all our other bodily systems to function.”

March is Nutrition Month! 🌱

Yes, I’m a dietitian… and yes, I still get excited about the magic that lives in all of us. I know tacky right? But it’s true! Your hands and feet used to be food. And it turned into our actual body. We need to eat to live, just like we need water and oxygen. Let’s all be so thankful to the earth for making us food and turns into our bodies. My son was tiny, he was! And now he is 6’4” with huge leg muscles. I sometimes look at my kids in awe. How did they become so big?

Answer: through the magic of nutrition!

Here’s to enjoying it, learning from it, and celebrating it all month long! 🥑✨

As if it was ever a good idea to skip meals as if it was going to fix anything, when we eat has no clinical significance compared to what we eat. People think that if they eat fast food and ultra processed foods it will be fine as long as you don’t eat after 7:00 PM?

Claudia Lemay is a Registered Dietitian in South Surrey, BC. She has experience in many fields and specializes in promoting health through changing eating habits for long-term results. She also specializes in the nutritional management of IBS (FODMAPs diet), allergies, celiac disease, heart disease type 2 diabetes as well as picky eating/problem feedings related to sensory processing disorders and/or autism. (She is SOS trained).

Claudia is the author of two children’s books. Her first book for children is about nutrition in general and is called Stargold The Food Fairy. She wrote it for her daughter Amélie who, at a young age, was not impressed with her mom whenever she served vegetables at meals. Claudia also created teaching tools from the book so that parents and teachers can explain the importance of nutrition to their children and students. Her second book is more specific; it is about a child with diabetes and is called “Lucie, Brody and The Food Fairy” (to be launched in early 2017). Claudia is also currently working on her third book for children, which will be on the topic of severe food allergies/anaphylaxis and a first book for adults about the long term detrimental effects of diets- and how they don't work.
