Medical and cosmetic nail care have evolved as separate systems, each with its own expertise, training, and objectives.

While both play an important role, many early-stage structural nail changes do not fit neatly into either category. As a result, these cases are often overlooked until symptoms become more advanced.

Creating a more consistent approach to assessment and communication may help bridge this gap and support earlier intervention when appropriate.

Who should treat early-stage nail changes?

The answer isn't always straightforward.
