How do you know if your exercise is hard enough?
Two simple tools can help: RPE (Rate of Perceived Exertion) and the talk-sing test.
RPE: This is a scale from 1–10 that measures how hard your body feels it’s working.
1–2 = very light
3–4 = light
5–6 = moderate
7–8 = vigorous
9–10 = maximal effort
Most beneficial exercise happens in the moderate-to-vigorous range — enough to challenge your body, but not so hard that you risk injury or excessive fatigue.
Talk-Sing Test:
If you can sing while exercising → intensity may be too low.
If you can talk comfortably but not sing → intensity is likely in the right range.
If you can barely speak → intensity may be too high.
Using these tools helps you exercise safely while still getting results.
If you’re unsure how to find the right intensity for your goals or your body, physiotherapy can help you structure your program and progress safely.

The body takes time to adapt. Strength builds gradually. Mobility improves incrementally. Tissues heal on their own timeline. Quick fixes may be tempting, but lasting change rarely happens overnight.
What does work?
Consistent effort in the right direction.
Small improvements compound. One good decision builds on the next. Over weeks and months, those steady steps create meaningful, lasting results.
If you’re not seeing dramatic changes right away, that doesn’t mean you’re failing — it means you’re human.
And if you’re unsure what the “right direction” looks like for your body, physiotherapy can help guide the process. You don’t need to rush it — you just need a plan and the willingness to keep moving forward.
Progress adds up. Keep going.

Can physiotherapy help with chronic fatigue?
It can, when approached carefully.
Chronic fatigue isn’t simply “being tired.” It can involve persistent exhaustion, reduced activity tolerance, brain fog, poor recovery, and symptom flare-ups after exertion.
That’s why more exercise isn’t always better.
The goal isn’t to push through fatigue. It’s to understand your current capacity and work within it.
A thoughtful rehabilitation approach focuses on pacing, gradual progression, energy management, and building tolerance in a way that minimizes setbacks.
Small, strategic increases over time can help improve function and confidence, without overwhelming the system.
Physiotherapy isn’t about forcing intensity. It’s about finding the right starting point and progressing in a way your body can sustain.
Recovery may be slow, but it can still move forward.

Setbacks are part of the process.
Recovery isn’t a straight line. There are good weeks, frustrating weeks, and sometimes steps backward.
But a setback isn’t failure — it’s feedback.
When a flare-up happens, we learn.
What was working?
What wasn’t?
What was overloaded?
Where does capacity still need to grow?
That information makes the plan better. It builds resilience. It teaches you how to respond — not just react — the next time your body is challenged.
If we slow down and pay attention, a setback can actually move recovery forward.
And you don’t have to navigate that alone. Physiotherapy isn’t just about exercises — it’s about understanding your body well enough to keep progressing.
Progress isn’t perfect. It’s persistent.

Far too often I have seen people get discouraged early on in their rehabilitation journey. The body takes time to recover fully, quick fixes often just mask your symptoms and don’t address the underlying issue. Lasting change comes with doing the right things over time. DON’T PANIC when the progress doesn’t seem to be coming the way you expect! When you change your perspective you might be able to see that you have actually been improving and you may already be on the road back to recovery!
