June is Migraine Awareness month.
As many of my clients know, I suffer from migraine disease. I have had migraines since I was a teenager. When I was younger, they would be around one to two a month, with some years being less than that.
However, as I’ve started perimenopause the frequency and severity have increased drastically. Now I get at least one migraine attack a week. Sometimes I catch them in time with my medication and can go on with my day. Other times I’m debilitated. I need a dark, quiet room and time.
I’m very grateful for my clients who are understanding when I cancel with little notice. I’m also grateful that I work for myself and can change my schedule to meet my health care needs.
Please know that- migraines are more than a headache. They make me dumb. The brain fog I get can be extreme wheee I have a hard time putting together a sentence. I cannot stand loud-ish sounds, light, movement, or food. It affects every part of my life.
So when you hear someone has a migraine today - be kind and compassionate to them.
