Some kinds of rest can’t be found in a skincare routine. 🤎

“A clean conscience makes a soft pillow.”

A simple reminder that peace of mind has a way of making rest come a little easier.

May you go into this week with a clear heart, a quiet mind, and hopefully, a very soft pillow. 😊

A little humming is apparently the final step before our Blacksoap Moisturizing Body Wash gets bottled. 😊

I love this stage of the process—when the texture is just right, smooth and satisfying. It’s one of those little moments in making that makes me happy enough to sing.

Handmade in Calgary, with care. 🤎

This month, we’re going back to where cleansing begins. 🌿

African Black Soap has been part of West African cleansing traditions for generations, traditionally made using plant materials and oils.

It’s an ingredient that sits especially close to the Sewa story—not only because of where it comes from, but because of what it represents: generations of knowledge about caring for skin with the ingredients available to us.

At Sewa, we build on that tradition with our Blacksoap Moisturizing Body Wash, creating an everyday cleanser that does its job while keeping one thing in mind:

Clean skin. Comfortable skin.

When you cleanse your skin, what are you taking off and what are you leaving behind? 👀

We often think a good cleanser is one that removes everything: sweat, sunscreen, makeup and everyday buildup.

But our skin also produces natural oils that help support its protective barrier. That’s why that *squeaky-clean* feeling isn’t always the goal.

A good cleansing routine should leave your skin feeling clean and comfortable, not stripped.

So this week, I want you to think about two things:

🌿 What are you cleansing with?
🌿 How often are you cleansing?

Because skincare doesn’t start after you cleanse. - Cleansing is skincare.

I talk more about this in this month’s blog. Read it through the link in our bio and let me know what you think. 🤎

We’ve spent this month talking about clean skin that still feels comfortable. But you don’t have to take our word for it. 🤎

One of our favorite things is hearing how our Blacksoap Moisturizing Body Wash actually feels on your skin and reviews like Andy’s are exactly why we keep making it.

Because at the end of the day, all the ingredients, formulation and skincare science have to translate into one thing: A product you genuinely enjoy using.

Thank you, Andy, for sharing your experience with us.

Sometimes, the best part of the day is washing it off. 🫧

There’s something about stepping into the shower at the end of the day and simply feeling fresh again.

A good lather. A good rinse. And skin that feels clean and comfortable when you’re done.

No complicated routine. No ten steps.

Just a little everyday care.

What makes African Black Soap… soap? Let’s geek out!

Traditional African Black Soap brings together plant-derived ash and oils in a process that transforms them into cleansing soap.

In the Black Soap base we use at Sewa Skincare, cocoa pod ash forms part of that cleansing foundation, while shea butter and coconut oil provide the fatty acids that form the soap and help shape how it cleans and feels on the skin.

It’s a beautiful example of traditional African knowledge meeting the science of formulation.

And it brings us right back to something we’ve been talking about all month:

Cleansing is skincare.

Getting clean shouldn’t have to mean leaving your skin feeling stripped. Thoughtful cleansing considers both how well a product cleans and how your skin feels afterwards.

That’s the thinking behind our Blacksoap Moisturizing Body Wash.

Clean skin. Comfortable skin.

Meet the product at the center of our conversations this month. 🌿

Our Blacksoap Moisturizing Body Wash brings African Black Soap, a cleansing ingredient rooted in West African skincare traditions into an easy-to-use everyday body wash.

When we developed it, we wanted it to do what a cleanser needs to do: clean well. But we also wanted to think about what happens after you rinse.

Because clean skin doesn't have to mean skin that feels tight or stripped.

That's the thinking behind our Blacksoap Moisturizing Body Wash: thoughtful cleansing that leaves your skin feeling clean and comfortable.

This month, we'll be sharing more about the ingredients, formulation and story behind it.

Because your skincare routine begins with cleansing.

In our blog this month, I challenge the idea of when skincare actually starts.

Cleansing is just as much a part of your skincare routine as the products you use afterwards.

So, does your skincare routine start after the shower or does it start with how you cleanse?

Behind every thoughtfully formulated product is thoughtful science.

This month, we've talked about why lightweight skincare can still be deeply nourishing.

Now let's look at one of the reasons why.

Shea Oil is naturally rich in oleic and linoleic fatty acids, two fatty acids that work together to help soften, condition, and support healthy-looking skin.

It's a simple reminder that great skincare isn't defined by how heavy it feels.

It's shaped by the ingredients you choose and how they're thoughtfully formulated to work together.

At Sewa, we believe understanding your skincare is just as important as using it.

✨ Save this post for the next time you see Shea Oil on an ingredient list.
