Botox Isn’t Just for Wrinkles.

When most people hear Botox, they think about forehead lines and crow’s feet.

But Botox also has an important medical use: treating excessive sweating, also known as hyperhidrosis.
Hyperhidrosis is more than just “sweating a lot.” For some people, sweating can soak through clothing, interfere with work, make handshakes uncomfortable, affect confidence, and require constant changes of clothing or use of antiperspirant.

And sometimes, regular antiperspirants simply aren’t enough.

Botox can help.

Botox works by temporarily blocking the chemical signals that activate the sweat glands in the treated area. When those signals are reduced, the amount of sweat produced can decrease significantly.

Treatment is commonly used for excessive underarm sweating, and Botox may also be used in selected patients for excessive sweating involving other areas.
One of the things I love about medicine is that sometimes a treatment we associate with aesthetics can make a very real difference in someone’s everyday quality of life.

At Bonsai Medical & Aesthetics, treatment begins with an assessment. Excessive sweating can occasionally be associated with medications or underlying medical conditions, so we want to understand why you’re sweating before simply treating the symptom.

If you’ve been planning your wardrobe around sweat stains, changing shirts throughout the day, avoiding certain colours, or finding that clinical-strength antiperspirants just aren’t cutting it, you don’t necessarily have to live with it.
