Hi I’m Henna and I like to talk about perfume. If you’re new here, tell me where you’re from and your scent of the day.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Mine is Geranium Pour Monsieur. I missed it last summer after I finished a 10ml bottle, so it was only a matter of time before I replaced it. This is the one of my favourite scents for a hot day. Yes, it smells like toothpaste, but I’m convinced that smelling cool makes me feel cool.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Maybe a lot of women don’t try this one because of monsieur in the name - but you can wear what you like, and an icy balm is what’s called for today. I wore 4 sprays - I could have worn 6. It’s so fresh and clean but not boring.

It’s the perfect time for green. All I can smell today is my hair - and I put in this Aveda Tousle Texture spray in this morning after my walk. It’s a dry shampoo type spray that absorbs oil and seems to add some body to hair that might otherwise be flat. You don’t have to use it on dirty hair, but it comes in handy if that’s what you’ve got.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The scent is unlike other dry shampoos, and Aveda stays true to its herbal roots always. There’s a spa-like freshness in everything, thanks to eucalyptus, lemongrass, mint, rosemary, and basil. If it’s green and in your herb garden, it’s probably in there. The effect is an uplifting one, a reminder that you’re alive. It’s the best in especially warm, muggy weather,
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
My final word of advice: powders can get mucky if you overuse them, so my own personal rule is that if you use a spray like this, you have to wash your hair the next day.

Heliotrope

That mix between purple and blue
that flavour you can smell but not taste
is it there
or did you imagine it?

And does that mean
it was there?

A fading star
A bud that never opens
Waking up with the sun
It’s the smell of almost.

It’s a great morning when your haircare smells like a famous perfume that everyone can’t get enough of - yes, it’s Kerastase’s Gloss Absolu Frizz-Glaze Cream, and the whole line smells like the base of Amouage Guidance, that faux sandalwood accord for people who have never been around sandalwood.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Does it make my hair frizz-free?
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Umm... no. But on its own, nothing will, and those with curly hair understand. I need a heavy-duty cocktail of products, but this doesn’t hurt, and I like that I can put it into dry hair, and it adds a bit of smoothness and definition without heaviness or greasiness, the way a serum might.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The Gloss Absolu line is great for those who have pretty tame hair that needs a bit of hydration - the shampoo and mask are rich without being too much. But also, if you love scented hair care - and like THIS scent in particular - then you can enjoy it all day long with this line.

It’s musk season, a perfume note that fits perfectly in between liminal spaces. It’s there, but not, you smell it and then you don’t. It’s a base note, it’s all over, all-encompassing, and then it disappears. You can layer it, you can wear it on its own. You can spray it all over your hair and then forget about it. It’s perfect for Spring. Is it sunny or will we get snow? Doesn’t matter. You wear Nemat Amber, and it goes with everything,
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Nemat’s Amber is a warm musk that was an oil, but is now an eau de parfum too. Whether you can smell it seems to depend on how much perfume you wear regularly, whether you have the ability to smell certain musks, and how warm you are.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Did you know that even if you can’t smell a perfume material, your brain still perceives it? Is there a way we can train our noses to be more aware of it?
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
My suggestion is to use unscented everything to give your nose a break and then try wearing any perfume, and chances are that you’ll be able to smell it so much better.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
But the next time you’re in that in-between time and you don’t know what to wear, maybe choose a musk.

Anyone else use their lipstick as blush and call it a day? Makes the routine so much easier. Less is more. Super easy makeup.

Guerlain Nerolia Vetiver is a figgy take on vetiver with a hint of green. It’s like walking through fog on a warm morning.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Tell me your favourite from the Aqua Allegorias. Are there any in this line still worth picking up?

New from Creed is Wild Vetiver and it’s Creed pulling a Le Labo by naming their perfume Wild Vetiver and making it smell like roses. Where is the vetiver here? It’s lost in the dry down, maybe used as a fixative, or it’s been turned into a wild feminine rose. Imagine plunging your hands into cool dirt and unearthing a rose bubble that pops as soon as it sees the sun.

Muscs Koublai Khan fits in those liminal spaces, between day and night, winter and summer, weekend and weekday. For all the days where you don’t know if you’re coming or going. Am I tired because it’s a Monday or because it’s a Friday?

If you want to smell an old-world musk perfume, this has everything you could want. Castoreum, civet, tonkin musk, warm and bodily and without apology. Don’t wear it for the compliments, wear it to remember what it feels to be alive.

Canada’s biggest drugstore chain - now has some new perfumes - most notable is the Mugler line of perfumes. For a while, these were gone from Canada and the US, but last year in China, I ran into the Mugler scents everywhere, so I knew they were out there. The one that gets the most hype - and rightfully so - is Over the Musk. This is a clean but slightly dirty warm musk. Musk perfumes of this kind can be polarizing if they’re new to you, but there’s something addictive in smelling something that shouldn’t be there. You just want to smell more of it. I couldn’t leave the counter before spraying some on my wrist. I’m glad I did because I got to experience it the whole day, and it’s one that I’ll go back for.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The Margiela Replica line has been at Sephora stores for a while, but these are still worth checking out if you’re new to the line. My favourite is Beach Walk for the summer, but I love all of them.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Clive Christian, at one point, came out with “the most expensive perfume in the world” but they’ve since expanded their offerings. Blond Amber gets a lot of hype. It’s a bit too masculine for me, but if you’ve always wanted to smell it before spending the cash, the testers are there.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Balmain came out with their high-end line a couple of years ago, and Sel d’Ambre was on my wishlist after trying it last year. I never got it because of the price, but I did put some on my skin to remind myself of what enraptured me. It’s a great patchouli amber, and maybe I’ll want it in the winter.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
They also have the Versace luxe line, but I wasn’t familiar with anything and didn’t have time to smell them all.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
See anything you like?

Warm yet airy and inviting. Like the first sip of a cocktail that sets fire to your tongue, but then clears your sinuses and wakes you up.

If you go to Paris, you need to smell this. It’s the Hotel Costes perfume, and if you’re in Paris, where the Costes hotel is, you may as well go down there and try the perfume for yourself.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Travelling is the one time I buy things on the spot, and when I passed by the Costes Hotel in Paris, I remembered that they have a famous perfume that was done by Olivia Giacobetti. It turns out that they have a little record store right next to the hotel and it also has all the perfumes, candles, and home scents. I put on Costes 1 and 2, just happy to have been able to try the perfumes, and left with my wrist pressed to my nose.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
And then I turned around. I didn’t know whether I’d have time to come back the way of Hotel Costes again, so I had to pick up this bottle.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Cinnamon and aromatics, blended with a fresh, dewy rose, it starts warm but stays airy. The fruity aspects of the rose come out as it sits on your skin, but it’s never too sweet. It’s the perfect Paris find.
