The perimenopause talks continue…on May 21 we will be talking all about SLEEP! 😴

Please join me for:

The Great Pause: Tired, Wired, and Wide Awake: Solving Perimenopause Sleep

We’ll cover:
⭐️The various things commonly linked to sleep issues in perimenopause (including hormone changes, nutrient deficiencies, restless legs, sleep apnea, nighttime waking to p*e, and more)
⭐️The key lifestyle habits that make or break your sleep
⭐️Evidence-based supplements that can support better sleep
⭐️Where hormone therapy (HRT) fits into the picture

This is not a one-size-fits-all approach. You’ll learn how to connect the dots and understand your own sleep patterns so you can finally get deeper, more restorative rest.

If you’re tired of being tired, this talk is for you.

Thursday, May 21 at 7-8 pm
In-person at Active Balance Health Center in Okotoks
Virtual (Zoom) tickets also available
Tickets are $10, purchase through Eventbrite (link in bio!) 💤

You’re not imagining it: midlife/perimenopause weight gain is real, and you can’t fight it on willpower alone.

Your body is changing in ways that increase hunger, lower metabolism, and make habits harder to stick to.

That’s why “eat less, move more” stops working.

In my talk on May 12, I break down:
✔ what’s actually happening in your body
✔ why it feels harder
✔ what actually works in midlife

📅 May 12 at 7pm

There is a lot more to the fibre conversation, but these are the basics.

We should be aiming for a variety of high-fibre foods (including but not limited to veggies!), ultimately getting us to a total of about 30g per day.

Tracking your diet for a few days can help you figure out your baseline, but during my dietary assessments I find that patients are typically getting half that much which is in line with our health statistics.

So assuming you need another 15 g of fibre per day is usually a good place to start.

If adding more fibre causes uncomfortable digestive symptoms, let’s talk.

Your diet isn’t working for you, friend. ❤️

“Low carb” doesn’t always mean low risk.

Hidden fats, no fibre, and zero balance can send cholesterol way up, fast.

I get why people try keto or carnivore: gut issues, weight loss, wanting to feel better. But we shouldn’t fix one problem while putting heart health at risk.

If you need help navigating this, let’s talk.

Remember, this is just ONE of the many reasons for midlife weight gain, but it’s an important one!

I’ll explain how to increase protein as a percentage of total calories without increasing total calories (as well as the other reasons for midlife/perimenopause weight gain) as part of my talk on March 26 at ABHC in Okotoks which is filling up fast.

Let me know if you want the link to register or you can find it in my bio.

If you have access to your MyAlberta Health account, and do yearly-ish bloodwork, you likely have had your hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) tested. This assesses how well you’ve been regulating your blood sugar levels over the past 3 months.

The diagnostic criteria for type 2 diabetes is a HbA1c >6.5% (prediabetes is 6.0-6.4%), a fasting glucose >7, or a random glucose >11.1.

But even before we get to prediabetes, we can see signs that things need to change. This is where lifestyle changes can have the biggest impact!
