Privilege comes in many forms.
One of them is never being told your hair is undesirable and needs to be maintained with chemicals or the install of wigs to resemble straight hair.
Privelege comes in never growing up as a little gjrl subconsciously thinking you'd be prettier if your hair wasn't curly, unruly and wild.
My journey with loving myself more partially entailed learning to accept that the hair that grows out of my head is beautiful because it's what the Creator gave me.
Whatever women choose to do with their bodies and hair is their business. I've come to learn resistance to a system that hates people who look like me means self acceptance.
I accept that my hair is different from what the colonizers deem as "good hair". I accept that people are somehow confused as to how I wash my hair (water & shampoo just like the rest of em). I acknowledge that centuries of racism forced and convinced people to hide the beauty of their natural design.
This is for the ancestors who endured hateful treatment because of their hair. This is for myself and the healing I've done to find the genuine desire to wear my hair naturally. This is for the babies in my bloodline who will also come to love and accept the divinity that is their hair.
Shout out to . My hairdresser, my friend, and a true Soul sister who sees me for who I am. Abundance to you and yours always for the work that you do in the black community babes β¨οΈπ₯
