🧡 National Day for Truth and Reconciliation — September 30 🧡

Today, we honour the children who never returned home, the Survivors of residential schools, and their families and communities.

We wear orange as a reminder that Every Child Matters — and as a commitment to listen, learn, acknowledge the truths of the past, and continue the work toward reconciliation.

May we take time today to reflect on the lasting impacts of residential schools and recognize the strength, resilience, cultures, and contributions of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples.

Reconciliation is more than one day. It is an ongoing responsibility built through understanding, respect, and meaningful action.

🧡 Every Child Matters. 🧡

Another successful pet therapy day in the books! 🐾❤️

Smiles were shared, spirits were lifted, and hearts were a little lighter. It’s amazing the difference a furry friend can make. Every wagging tail, gentle cuddle, and happy moment reminds us that companionship is one of the greatest forms of care. 💙🐶

Would this be something you’d be interested in at a cost ?

Caring for a loved one at home can feel overwhelming, especially if you’ve never been shown how.

I’m considering offering hands-on caregiver education workshops where you’ll learn practical skills such as:

❤️ Safe transfers from bed to chair
❤️ Walking safely with walkers and mobility aids
❤️ Brief changes with dignity and respect
❤️ Feeding assistance
❤️ Personal hygiene and bathing
❤️ Brushing teeth and denture care
❤️ Positioning in bed to help reduce pressure injuries
❤️ Fall prevention and proper caregiver body mechanics
❤️ Basic skin care and pressure injury prevention
❤️ Ostomy care education and guidance, including pouch changes and everyday care
❤️ Basic wound care education and dressing change techniques (where appropriate)

My goal is to help family caregivers feel more confident, provide safe care at home, and better understand the day-to-day needs of their loved ones.

Would you or someone you know be interested?

Please let me know in the comments or send me a private message. Your feedback will help me shape these workshops and ensure they cover what families need most.

💙 Because caring for someone you love shouldn’t mean doing it alone.

One thing I’ve really come to appreciate working in healthcare is the power of patience, tone, and human connection — especially when caring for clients living with dementia.

GPA (Gentle Persuasive Approach) has taught me that sometimes the smallest things make the biggest difference:
✔️ slowing down
✔️ listening
✔️ validating feelings
✔️ redirecting with kindness
✔️ making someone feel safe instead of rushed

I’ve learned that behaviours are communication. Behind every moment of confusion, frustration, or fear is a person who deserves dignity, compassion, and understanding.

I’m proud of the calm presence I bring into those situations. Whether it’s helping de-escalate a difficult moment, building trust, or simply making someone smile and feel comfortable again — those moments matter.

Working with dementia clients has made me a more patient healthcare worker, but more importantly, a better human being. ❤️
