🔑THURSDAY TIP

Want a cool way to cut back on screen time on your phone?

Set a limit on your phone for using certain apps!

Just go into your phone’s settings and set daily time limits – it’s pretty easy.

You’ll get a warning before you reach your daily limit, as well as an option to continue using the app if necessary.

Try it! It can be a great way to cut back on your phone use.

🥗This refreshing salad features this week’s food of the week: fennel!

It makes a delicious side dish for beef, fish, or chicken dishes. To turn it into a main dish, add cooked grains or tuna.

✅TIP: Don’t skip the “setting” time before serving, it really boosts the flavor.

⭐️Fennel, Pecan & Summer Squash Salad ⭐️
(makes 6 servings)

● ⅓ cup (80 ml) extra virgin olive oil
● ¼ cup (60 ml) apple cider vinegar
● 6 small celery stalks, very thinly sliced
● 1 fennel bulb, very thinly sliced
● 1 small summer squash, cut in half lengthwise and then sliced crosswise
● 1 15-oz (425 grams) can cannellini beans, drained and rinsed
● Sea salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
● ½ cup (75 grams) toasted pecans, chopped

Whisk together the oil and vinegar in a bowl, and add the celery, fennel, summer squash, and beans, tossing well. Season with salt and pepper.

Place in the refrigerator for at least an hour to chill. Stir in the pecans and additional salt and pepper (if needed) before serving. Enjoy!

⭐️Do you ever cook with FENNEL?!

It’s a member of the carrot family that has surprising health benefits – and it’s a great choice to add some variety to your meals.

If you’ve ever had it before, you might have noticed it has a mild licorice flavor, which is because it’s related to anise.

✅Every part of the fennel plant is edible, from its seeds and bulb to its stalk and leaves.

It’s loaded with fiber, potassium, magnesium, calcium, and iron, as well as vitamins K, C, A, E, and B6.

Fennel is also a solid source of polyphenols, an antioxidant that fights inflammation and boosts the immune system.

Add “anetholes” to the list, too … which is another powerful antioxidant with antimicrobial and antiviral properties.

👉It might even help boost breast milk production in nursing mothers and is believed to help ease menopause symptoms.

Add it to salads, stir-fries, soups, and sandwiches. It’s also really tasty in baked goods and seafood dishes!

This week’s challenge may REALLY be a challenge for you!

It’s the “PUT DOWN YOUR PHONE” Challenge …

Which means check it only ONCE PER HOUR (TOPS).

Research shows that too much screen time doesn’t do you any favors physically, mentally, or emotionally.

Here are a few upsides of spending less time with your phone:

● You will connect more with the people in your life.
● You will be more productive at work and play.
● You will be more present and aware of the moments you’re in.
● Your sleep may actually improve!
● You might even notice less shoulder and neck pain.

🔑THURSDAY TIP

Have you been snapping pics of your meals for your challenge – and taking notes about how you felt afterward?

It’s time to start putting that info to good use.

Look over your journal and see if you can notice any trends.

Do certain foods make you feel bloated? Hungry in an hour or two? Sleepy? Feeling full for hours?

Knowing your body will help you to make more intentional food choices in the future.

What’s one thing you’ve noticed about your body since the beginning of the week? 👇

🤩I have an out-of-the-box recipe that will transform your sandwiches, grilled or roasted chicken and pork, and anything else you can think of!

It’s a spicy-sweet alternative to regular ketchup … and just might become your go-to choice when plums are in season!

🍇Plum Ketchup 🍇
(makes 18 servings)

● 6 medium plums, pitted and quartered
● 2 cloves garlic, minced
● 3 Tbsp coconut sugar
● ⅓ cup (80 ml) apple cider vinegar
● ⅓ cup (80 ml) water
● ½ tsp sea salt
● 1 tsp pumpkin pie spice
● Dash of cayenne pepper

In a large heavy saucepan, combine all of the ingredients and bring to a simmer over medium heat. Lower the heat and let simmer uncovered until the plums have cooked down to a puree consistency (about 35-40 minutes) stirring occasionally.

Remove from the heat and let cool before scraping into a bowl or other storage container. It will keep in the fridge for 1 week or freezer for 6 months.

🛒How often do you put PLUMS in your grocery cart?!

Plums don’t get a lot of attention … but they carry a lot more benefits than just being juicy and delicious.

🤯Fun fact: They contain almost DOUBLE the amount of antioxidants found in most other fruits.

Plums are full of “anthocyanins” … a type of antioxidant that reduces inflammation associated with lung and joint problems.

While they may seem high in sugar, plums don’t appear to cause blood sugar spikes. That’s because they also increase the production of hormones that regulate blood sugar.

✅They can be eaten fresh off the tree, in salads, stewed, or even in a smoothie. DELICIOUS!

It’s time for a simple FOOD-MOOD JOURNAL CHALLENGE!

Keeping a food journal - even just for a few days - can help you figure out what you’re REALLY eating vs. what you THINK you’re eating.

It’s also a helpful tool to track food triggers and habits because so much of our eating habits can become second nature – we don’t give it much thought.

For this challenge, we are going to keep it super simple.

🍏All you have to do is keep a food journal by taking a quick pic of every meal (or snack) you eat.

📝Then after you eat, open up your phone’s Notes app and dictate a few things:

● What time did you eat?
● Who were you with?
● What were you doing?
● How did you feel before and after?

Be as specific as possible.

At the end of the week, you’ll have a very good idea about:

● How healthy your diet really is
● How many servings of fruits & veggies you actually eat
● How often you eat processed/junk foods
● When you tend to eat too little or too much
● How your food choices impact your moods (both before + after eating)

Repost from Live Fast Live Fit - Coach Laura Livesfit

For this week’s plank challenge, as you get tired, it can become tempting to sink into your plank and look down at your feet.

Here are two quick tips to help:

1. Stay strong and don’t do it! Keep your neck long and look at the floor in front of you.

2. Breathe. When the plank becomes challenging, most people hold their breaths. This can actually make it more challenging. So keep your breath nice and even.

And here’s a BONUS TIP: If you want to hold your plank even longer, ramp it up by adding a few seconds a day. Over time it really adds up!

How is your plank challenge going so far this week? 👇
