Does your usual rhythm around food shift in the summer?
There are BBQs, camping trips, visits with family and friends, road trips, ice cream stops, and a different rhythm to our days.
And there are fresh juicy berries, garden vegetables, farmers’ markets, outdoor meals, and more opportunities to slow down and enjoy our food.
This morning, a Midlife Essentials client and I were exploring how to stay connected to what helps her feel her best while visiting family this summer.
We got much more interested in curiosity and creativity than perfection.
Together, we came up with a few simple things she could do while away - small things that support her energy, hormones, nourishment, and well-being.
But what struck me most wasn’t the nutrition.
It was the story underneath.
She went from a version of:
“Well, I’m visiting my parents, so I have to eat whatever my mom cooks or she’ll feel hurt,”
to a deeper truth that honoured both her connection with her mom and her own wisdom about what helps her thrive.
In my experience, this is often where lasting change happens.
Not through willpower.
But by getting curious … including about the stories underneath our choices.
For me, midlife wellness is often less about doing everything “right” and more about getting curious and creative about what helps us thrive while fully living our lives.
I’m curious … what are some of the little things, nutrition-wise, that help you feel your best in the summer while still enjoying the camping trips, patio dinners, family visits, and ice cream stops? ☀️🍓
