Have you ever wondered what your donations to the Carberry North Cypress-Langford Health Action Committee help support?
One important initiative funded by the HAC is the Paramedic Suite!
In September 2024, when our community was facing the loss of physician services and an Emergency Room closure, the Committee felt it was essential to help ensure continued ambulance coverage for local 911 calls. Shared Health identified staff accommodations as an important recruitment and retention tool for paramedics working in rural communities.
With the support of community donations, the HAC secured a fully furnished two-bedroom suite and continues to cover the rental and cleaning expenses. Providing accommodations has helped make Carberry an attractive location for paramedic staff and has supported the recruitment and retention of a full EMS team.
While accommodations help support local ambulance services, they do not guarantee that the ambulance will remain in Carberry for every shift. At times, paramedics may be "geo-posted" to assist neighbouring communities experiencing staffing shortages.
Today, Carberry is fortunate to have a fully staffed team of four dedicated paramedics: Anya, Marion, Eli, and Roy. Together, they provide 24/7 emergency medical coverage for our community and surrounding area. From 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. they are stationed at the Health Centre awaiting calls, and from 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. they remain on call from the HAC-supported suite.
Thank you to everyone who donates, volunteers, and supports the HAC. Your contributions help strengthen healthcare services in our community in meaningful and tangible ways.
And if you happen to see our paramedic team around town, please help us give them a warm Carberry welcome!
