Caring For Those Who Care event was great. Conversations with Daniel, a Funeral Director had such great, important info for professional caregivers to take into our daily lives at work and even at home. Therapy With Hart answered some important questions for us.
Bummed I forgot to take a picture of myself in my very first LifeWays Care Team business merch so that will be for another time...but was happy to sit with some coworkers from long-term care.
Now at the track to support who I sponsor 67GOKARTS Taylor Vanderivere
Going to be a 🥶 weekend out here. I am bundled up! Hope everyone thinks of me if they are home warm and cozy!

Behind the scenes this weekend but still caring and supporting others always

WHAT DOES IT REALLY TAKE TO HELP A SENIOR REMAIN AT HOME? 🏡
It's a question worth asking.
When we talk about helping seniors age at home, we often focus on personal care.

Bathing.
Dressing.
Mobility.
Medication reminders.

And yes, those things matter tremendously.
But after more than 23 years working in care, I've learned that supporting someone at home involves much more.
It's the groceries they can no longer pick up themselves.
The appointment they need transportation to attend.
The meal they don't have the energy to prepare.
The family caregiver who hasn't had a proper break in weeks.
And sometimes, it's simply having someone stop by for a conversation.
A new statement from the Ontario Community Support Association is drawing attention to the importance of protecting home-care funding and investing in community support services.
It raises an important question.
Are we looking at everything a person needs to remain safe, independent and connected at home?
Because successful aging at home isn't always about doing everything independently.
Sometimes it's about having the right support in place.
At LifeWays Care Team, I believe families deserve help understanding their options and finding the resources that fit their circumstances.

💬 Caregivers and seniors: What's one service you believe makes the biggest difference in helping someone remain at home?

🍁💜 HAPPY THANKSGIVING FROM CAREGIVERSTRONG INSTITUTE! 🧡🍂

This Thanksgiving, our hearts are filled with gratitude for the incredible caregivers, families, healthcare professionals, volunteers, and community partners who make a difference every day. 💜

To every caregiver who gives so much of themselves to care for someone else - we see you, we appreciate you, and we celebrate you. 💕

Your love, compassion, strength, and dedication remind us that caregiving is more than an act of service - it is an act of love.

May this Thanksgiving bring you moments of peace, joy, connection, and the reminder that you deserve care, too. 💜

🍁 Learning to Care Differently

With gratitude,

WHO SAYS GROWING OLDER MEANS SLOWING DOWN? 🌷
One thing I've learned throughout my years working with seniors is that age doesn't determine someone's personality, interests or desire to enjoy life.
Some seniors love gardening.
Some love dancing.
Some enjoy reading, painting or learning something completely new.
And some are still looking for their next adventure!

An Ontario organization is introducing creative aging activities involving theatre, dancing, memory exercises and social connection.

I love seeing programs that focus on what seniors CAN DO, rather than only what they may need help with.
Because aging isn't just about adding years to life.
It's also about continuing to find enjoyment, purpose and connection throughout those years.

SO LET'S HAVE A LITTLE FUN TODAY!
💬 If age, money and physical limitations weren't factors, what's ONE thing you would love to try?
Maybe it's learning to dance.
Taking a painting class.
Travelling somewhere new.
Or finally trying that hobby you've been thinking about for years!
I'd love to hear your answers!

🚨 CAREGIVERS: Is your body still in caregiver mode even when nobody needs you?

You finally get a minute to yourself…but:

☐ You can’t sit still
☐ Your mind keeps running through your to-do list
☐ Every notification makes you grab your phone
☐ You’re exhausted but have trouble relaxing
☐ Little things suddenly feel HUGE
☐ You feel like you always have to be ready for the next problem

How many boxes did you check?

Here’s something caregivers don’t hear enough:

Sometimes you get a break — but your nervous system doesn’t.

When you've been dealing with ongoing stress, responsibility and unpredictability, your body's fight-or-flight response can become activated frequently.

And this is where the vagus nerve becomes an interesting part of the conversation. It plays an important role in the parasympathetic nervous system — the system involved in helping your body settle, rest and recover.

💬 CAREGIVER CHECK-IN:

When you finally get time to yourself, can you actually relax?

YES / SOMETIMES / WHAT IS RELAXING? 😅
