🚨 BREAKING NEWS 🚨
Just announced today that PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome) has officially been renamed PMOS (Polyendocrine Metabolic Ovarian Syndrome)
This means that the limiting view and focus on cysts in ovaries as a diagnostic criteria is taking a back seat and the wholistic impact this condition has is taking centre stage.
For years, PCOS has been focused on a condition of the reproductive system only. This negated the other symptoms that women suffered with that led to their misdiagnosis - especially when the main symptoms were not ovarian cysts.
With this reclassification of PCOS to PMOS, there is a recognition of the hormonal impact on women’s metabolic, physical, and mental states.
Along side the previous symptoms of PCOS
- Irregular periods
- Ovarian cysts
- High androgens
- Infertility
PMOS also acknowledges other impacts on the body, such as:
- Insulin resistance
- Inflammation
- Weight challenges
- Mood and mental health
- Cardiometabolic risk
This truly opens up so many more treatment avenues and perspectives. Instead of treating symptoms individually, it is finally recognized that treating hormone imbalances will have an impact on mental health, insulin resistance and inflammation, and cardiovascular risk.
Let the world rejoice in this long overdue recognition!
How excited are you about this news?
Do you have an ND on your side that has helped you along your hormone journey? (And let’s be honest, likely treating PMOS and not PCOS all along)
