National Health and Fitness Day is an annual coast-to-coast-to-coast celebration of physical activity held on the first Saturday in June (June 6 in 2026). Make it a day to explore your community, get outside, and make movement a priority.

It was established in 2014 after the Government of Canada passed the National Health and Fitness Day Act to make Canadians more aware of the important health benefits of physical activity, urge them to get more active, and encourage local governments and organizations to host events and initiatives that celebrate and promote the significance and use of parks and local fitness, sport and recreational facilities.

Seniors Month is an opportunity to acknowledge the many ways older adults contribute to our community every day through volunteering, mentorship, caregiving, community involvement, and leadership.

This year's proclamation also helps kick off preparations for Aging Well: The Senior Health & Safety Fair, taking place on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM at the Benson Centre.

We hope you can join us as we celebrate and recognize the important role older adults play in building a stronger, healthier, and more connected community.

June is National Indigenous History Month — a time to recognize and honour the rich history, heritage, resilience, and diversity of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis Peoples across Canada. 🧡

Throughout the month, Canadians are encouraged to learn about Indigenous cultures, traditions, languages, and stories, while reflecting on the important contributions Indigenous Peoples have made — and continue to make — within our communities and across the country.

National Indigenous Peoples Day, celebrated on June 21, holds special significance for many Indigenous communities and is an opportunity to participate in and support cultural events, Pow Wows, festivals, Indigenous artists, businesses, and community celebrations.

Together, let us continue learning, listening, and working toward reconciliation with respect, understanding, and appreciation.
