COMMUNITY CONSULTATION MEALS ON THE AKWESASNE CHILD RIGHTS & RESPONSIBILITIES LAW: ENIETHIHSWANÓN:NA
The Working Task Group (WTG) for the Child Rights and Responsibilities Law, Eniethihswanón:na, is pleased to announce the continuation of Community Consultation Sessions in each district.

This round of consultations will be held over dinner, providing community members with an opportunity to learn about and share their views on the history, development, and implementation of this law. All meals will be provided by one of Akwesasne's delicious catering services and will be served on a first come, first served basis.

Initial Community Consultation Session Schedule:

🗓️ District of Kaná:takon — October 14, 2026
Kaná:takon Recreation Center at 5:00 p.m.

🗓️ District of Kawehnò:ke — Pending Date & Location

🗓️ District of Tsi Snaíhne — Pending Date & Location

The WTG has been in Phase III of the Akwesasne Legislative Enactment Procedural Regulation (ALEPR), Community Consultation, since March 2026. Consultation sessions have been held in each district and at various community venues to help ensure input is gathered from all demographics within Akwesasne.

Community outreach and consultation efforts will continue. Once the remaining consultation dates are confirmed, the WTG will publicly announce the meeting details and establish a deadline for comments, providing at least four weeks' notice.

Copies of the draft law and supporting documents may also be picked up at the Akwesasne Justice Department, located at 45 Johnson Road, Kaná:takon.

Once the dates and locations for the District of Kawehnò:ke and the District of Tsi Snaíhne have been confirmed, the community will be notified.

The Akwesasne Coalition for Community Empowerment will be hosting Prescription Take-Back Day on Saturday, October 24, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Dispose of all expired and unused prescription medications and vapes for safe and proper disposal at any of the following locations: SRMT Tribal Police Station, Akwesasne Mohawk Police Station, Kawehno:ke at the Service Road across from Peace Tree Mall, and Snye Recreation Parking Lot.

Free Narcan trainings will also be held at the Tribal Police Station, Snye Rec, and Kawehno:ke.
