So much respect for this man. Also, fond memories of singing in the car with my dad and brother to his songs. My dad admired him and passed that admiration along to me. A civil rights champion.

In the 1950s, when segregation was still widespread, his ascent to the upper echelon of show business was historic. But his primary focus was civil rights.

A lovely day celebrating Kevin’s birthday. The train is in San Juan Capistrano where we breakfasted at Moulin. We drove to Balboa Park in San Diego and spent time in the Japanese Gardens and one of the museums. We stopped by to hear some drumming at an Earth Day celebration, had Mexican food in Old Town, and finally, gelato at Hotel del Coronado and reading on the beach. We picked up Indian food to take home and watched Succession. It’s good to have time together.
