I've been listening to The Untethered Soul and reflecting on how often I have closed my heart without even realizing it.

Not because life is terrible.
Not because people are always unsafe.
But because closing has become such a "normal" response to discomfort.

As I sit with the notion of being more open-hearted, the invitation isn't to force ourselves open or ignore healthy boundaries.

It's simply to notice.

To become aware of the moments we contract, withdraw, harden, or protect.

Because awareness creates choice.

And choice creates the possibility of meeting life with a little more openness, trust, and presence than we did yesterday.

Where have you noticed yourself closing lately?

Many of you know I have a side hustle working for a regional magazine. And this newest release of The Trench marks another milestone in my writing career ... my most comprehensive, largest published and paid piece yet ... and it touches on something near and dear to my heart ✨️💖✨️

Sowing the Seeds of Love: two farming families, one going back generations, the other brand new. Together, their stories speak to hometown agriculture heritage, the future of our food, and the embrace of a most profound calling.

It was such an honour to sit with Frank and Barb, Nigel and Laura, and Tanya. It touched my heart in ways that I never imagined. Made me think of food and my place in this world in new ways. And that feeling was mirrored back.

This valley is special in so many ways and we have a real opportunity here to reshape food and agriculture as a model for the rest of the western world. I truly believe that and as a community, we can prove it.

Be her.

Be the woman who stopped shrinking to make others comfortable.

The woman who outgrew old versions of herself, even when it was lonely.

The woman who chose healing over pretending, growth over comfort, and purpose over approval.

Be her.

Be the woman who chased the dream even after rejection, who rebuilt herself after disappointment, who kept believing there was more waiting for her, even during seasons when nothing made sense.

Be her.

Be the woman who no longer abandons herself to keep the peace.

Who stopped apologizing for taking up space.

Who finally understood that self-betrayal was never love, but a silent goodbye to her soul.

Be her.

Be the woman who doesn't wait for permission to live the life she dreams of, the woman who creates her own path, trusts her inner knowing, and remembers that she was never meant to play small.

Be her.

Be the woman who turned her pain into power, who took every lesson life handed her and used it to rise, heal, and help other women do the same. The woman who chose purpose over bitterness and transformation over staying stuck.

Be her.

Be the woman who knows fear will always whisper, but she no longer lets it have the loudest voice. The woman who trusts every risk she takes in becoming herself is worth it.

Be her.

Be the woman who decided her story wasn't over, it was just beginning. Who stepped into her next chapter with faith, courage, and a deep trust in who she is becoming.

The world needs her.
The world needs you.

This is your time.
This is your life.

Be her anyway.

This week reminded me that thoughts and feelings aren’t always truth.

I had guilt come up hard around not making it to the gym while moving. Even though my body was working nonstop every single day, there was still a voice trying to convince me I was losing progress.

But fear has a way of speaking in absolutes.

One missed week suddenly becomes “you’re losing yourself.”

One pause becomes “you’re failing.”

This morning I walked to the gym from my new place and realized nothing had disappeared in the time I took to survive a demanding season of life.

Our thoughts can be loud.
Our stories can feel real.
And we do not have to become them.

How can we really know someone when we are all here spending our lives trying to know our selves? We can feel so sure, yet need to remember that people come into our lives for a season, a reason, or a lifetime. Most often the first two.

Ram Dass said we're all here walking each other home. We're meant to do this together, and it happens in many different ways. Sometimes it’s love and deep connection, and sometimes it’s friction that pushes you to grow or someone who comes in briefly and shifts everything. Even the people who hurt us can be part of that walk, not because it’s okay, but because of what it shows us. None of us are ahead or behind, we’re just meeting each other at different points along the way.

A good friend of mine also says that when someone shows you their true colours, believe them the first time.

I hold all of these things as true and real and alive.

I also feel that we give too much weight to the notion of failure. All it means is that we saw potential or an opportunity, we were brave and took a chance, and it didn't work out the way we had hoped or dreamed. There's so much learning and growth in that. As much as their can be pain and sadness and all that comes with it too.

Again, these things can all be true and alive all at once.

This is the beauty and complexity and heartache of being human. And we can either show up or shut down.

I, for one, want to continue to show up and keep choosing me and life, no matter what 💕

💚 Every day is Earth Day 💚

The ground beneath your feet, the air you breathe, the water you drink. This isn’t separate from you. It’s a relationship.

For a long time, people lived with that understanding. They listened. They paid attention. They took what they needed and gave back in return. There was respect there.

Mother Earth is not something to take from, but something to be in right relationship with.

Something alive.

She feeds us. Holds us. Sustains us in ways we don’t always stop to notice.

And there’s a responsibility in that.

Not from pressure or guilt, but from care. From remembering that how we move through the world matters.

Small choices. Daily awareness. A willingness to do better where we can.

Today is a reminder.
To slow down.
To notice.
To give something back.

However that looks for you.

Because this place we live in, this place we belong to, deserves that kind of care.

Step into relationship and care for her with joy. Laughter. Lightness of heart. Like my bud and I here, hiking in the snow, being chased, by dusk, having a carrot smoke at Carrot Lake.

🌿 Happy Earth Day, today and always 🌿

xo, Danette

Spring cleaning isn’t just for your house, your car, or your yard…what about your body?

We tune everything else up this time of year, but our bodies are the one place we actually live. Tight shoulders, tired nervous system, stagnant energy; it all adds up. Consider this your reminder to give yourself the same care you give everything else.

I’ve got a couple openings coming up:
• Tuesday, April 21 at 2:30pm
• Tuesday, April 28 at 11am

You can also book ahead into May.

Sessions are always tailored to you. Relaxation or deep tissue massage, craniosacral therapy, lymphatic drainage, cupping, reiki/energy work, or a combination depending on what your body is asking for.

To book, text 250-464-0321 or email [email protected] (please don’t use Facebook Messenger).

A quick note: I don’t direct bill. I can provide receipts, but check with your provider to see if they cover therapeutic/holistic massage and bodywork from an unregistered provider (fully insured and trained).

Your body does a lot for you. This is your chance to return the favour.

If you’ve been curious about craniosacral therapy but not quite sure what it is or whether it’s for you, this is a good place to start.

Craniosacral is subtle work. The touch is gentle, but it’s not surface-level. It works with your nervous system, your tissues, and a natural rhythm in the body that’s been with you since the very beginning.

In a session, I’m not trying to fix anything. I’m listening. Following. Looking for where your system has space and where it’s holding. Supporting your body to do what it already knows how to do.

It can help with things like stress, anxiety, brain fog, headaches, migraines, vertigo, whiplash, ADD/ADHD, sleep, inflammation, and more. Or simply when something feels off and you can’t quite name it.

As I begin offering craniosacral sessions in my practice, I’m opening a limited number of introductory appointments.

90-minute craniosacral session: $120
(regular $150, first session is 90 minutes)

Book by May 15 to take advantage of this rate. Your appointment can be scheduled for a later date, it just needs to be booked by then.
