Last week our residents were entertained as they had fun stepping back in time during our fabulous 1950s Rock 'n' Roll Music Theme Day! Our M-P room was transformed into a classic diner serving up delicious milkshakes for this nostalgic event 🎶🥤✨

The fun really got rolling when Elvis made a a special appearance With his iconic songs and signature dance moves that had our residents singing along and tapping their feet!

It was a wonderful day filled with music, memories, friendship, and lots of smiles. Take a look at these photos and relive all the rock 'n' roll fun with us! 🎸❤️

Front Lobby Update: Access to the main entrance will occur today. Hoarding is being removed as I type this update. The space will be mopped and cleaned but there is still work to do. Painting and window sills will be complete next week. The fireplace and TV installation is set for next week. Heat pump is in and functioning. New ceiling lighting will be installed the first week of June. Furniture will be another few weeks before delivery. Custom window blinds still need to be arranged, measured and ordered - we cannot do that until the windows/painting, etc are complete. Please note contractors will still be working in the space next week. Please refrain from sitting in the area or spending any great deal of time there until the first week of June. Once fully complete, we will do a post with before, during and after shots. Thank you again for your patience during this project.

Front Lobby Update: The front lobby renovation project is moving along nicely and we hope to have the space completed in the next 2 weeks. Walls are complete, new heat pump in installed, new electrical, additional outlets are installed and the new fireplace is under construction. Flooring in the resident space of the front lobby will be completed later today/early tomorrow. Window replacements are to follow.

From May 19-20, the main entrance for Oakwood will NOT be accessible while the contractors complete this piece of the flooring installation. Family, visitors, residents and staff will need to access the rear entrance only. Please DO NOT access the emergency exits on each unit. They are not to be used as a door to come and go from.

Plans are in place to oversee building safety and emergency access while the main entrance is off bounds for the timeframe listed above.

We thank you again for your patience and understanding while we complete the next phase of this renovation work.

Our residents are still feeling the joy from our recent uplifting Gospel Shows! 🎶✨ Here are a few photos of the incredibly talented volunteers from Oakwood & Seaside FM who helped make this such a memorable weekend. Your generosity, time, and tireless effort truly made the event something special.

Because of your dedication over the past two months, our residents were able to enjoy weekly rehearsals and attend both nights of the show which is an experience they will cherish. Thank you for being the heart behind it all. We are so grateful for each and every one of you! 💛

To everyone that came out and supported the show. Thank you for sharing this special weekend with us. Every dollar raised will greatly enhance the quality of 'Recreation Services' for our residents as well as give back to our community through the 'Wayne Harrett Scholarship Fund'.

Main Entrance Update: We are happy to share the main entrance is now open and accessible again. The flooring removal went very well yesterday. All materials were removed in compliance with Infection Control during Renovation/Construction (CAN/CSA standards) for Health Care facilities. Air quality testing was completed and we received clearance this morning to safely reopen the main entrance. We estimate the remainder of renovation will take 4-5 weeks. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we complete the front lobby renovation project.

To keep everyone updated. Oakwood Terrace is operating normally. There is no strike action at home. There is a potential for a strike amongst our CUPE staff in the next few weeks unless there is an agreed pay settlement between CUPE members and the provincial government. We will post updates as and when there is new information.

On Tuesday 21st April 2026 the front entrance to the home will be closed to facilitate the lobby refurbishment work. Entrance and exit to the nursing home will be via the rear doorway of the building. It is expected that the front entrance will be fully open again the following day.

Outbreak Status Update: As of this morning, the suspected outbreak on B unit has been declared over. The confirmed Influenza outbreak on A unit remains active and residents must remain on the unit. Please consider not taking your loved one out to public areas over the next 4-6 weeks. High priority medical appts will be supported without question but we do ask that families reduce or refrain from the high volume of resident outings we are experiencing. Two of the three most recent sources of an outbreak/positive cases are directly linked to new admissions from the community, residents being on pass with families for a number of days and those that are out to malls and restaurants with families. Thank you for your understanding and consideration. We will update again early next week. No changes to the closure of A unit will occur before then.

Suspected Outbreak Update: Unit A remains closed and under precautions due to a recent Influenza A positive case. Additional residents are showing signs and symptoms of a respiratory virus and swabs were sent out this morning for testing. Residents on A unit must remain on the unit at this time. They are not restricted to their room unless on isolation precautions. The restriction means that cannot leave the unit, walk about the facility, sit in the front lobby or attend recreational or exercise classes at this time. We will update again mid week.
