Change is coming to Natural Road to Wellness.
And that change begins this fall.
On September 8th, I will officially open my new hair salon & boutique here in Nova Scotia.
At 55 years old, I’m returning to a skill I never really lost. I simply locked it away while I spent the past twelve years learning new ways to serve.
And somehow, looking back now, I can see that I was never really leaving this part of myself behind. I tried but it was impossible.
Being a hairstylist is who I am.
The past seven months of living in Nova Scotia have been anything but predictable.
I arrived at a home that needed renovations and instead of seeing another problem, something in me came alive.
I created. I worked. I painted. I renovated. I spent mornings to nights like a workhorse.
And somewhere along the way, I realized:
I’m home.
I love our home!!
Nova Scotia has given me sunshine, heat waves, beautiful people, unexpected friendships, challenges, fear, laughter, and more than a few roadblocks.
In February, I applied for my business number.
Then I learned that Natural Road to Wellness couldn’t be registered here because the name was too close to another business.
So I became Angela Sellars Consulting & Coaching.
Then came another roadblock.
I learned that using my professional title in Nova Scotia carried regulations I hadn’t understood. My Google business profile disappeared. My online practice was affected. I lost my Naturopath Practitioner licence and, along with it, many of the clients who had trusted me for years.
That one hurt.
A lot.
I wondered:
Where does this leave me?
I went to interviews for wellness positions and discovered that what many organizations were actually looking for was something very different from what I thought I was offering.
I networked.
I went outside my comfort zone.
I found the Holistic Hub.
I made new friends.
I practiced my skills.
I stood twice in front of groups of peers and spoke for ten minutes about my story, my experience and what I could offer.
I challenged the Nova Scotia cosmetology by-laws exam and passed, thankfully.
I became officially registered as a licensed hairstylist.
And through all of it, I kept practicing one skill more than any other:
Trusting that things can happen for me, not simply to me.
Then, almost magically, an opportunity appeared.
And suddenly all those skills I had locked away weren’t so locked away anymore.
I realized I didn’t have to choose between who I’ve been and who I’ve become.
I could merge them.
The hairstylist.
The wellness practitioner.
The Reiki Master.
The mindfulness practitioner.
The coach.
The woman who has spent years learning about emotional awareness, authenticity, confidence and coming home to yourself.
They can all sit in the same chair.
So this September, something unexpected is launching.
I am officially a salon owner once again at 55.
And I couldn’t be more excited.
I’ve worked with children, adults, seniors, midlife women and everyone in between. But as I move into this next chapter, I know exactly where my heart is:
Midlife and beyond.
Because beauty doesn’t disappear with age.
It evolves.
And maybe this is what the last seven months have really been about.
Not starting over.
Not going backwards.
Not losing everything I built.
But bringing everything I’ve learned with me.
This fall, I return to the industry with a more holistic approach.
A place where outer beauty is never separated from the person sitting in the chair.
A place where you can feel seen.
A place where you can feel beautiful.
A place where inner beauty meets outer beauty.
September 8th.
A new chapter begins.
And after everything it took to get here, I have a feeling this one is going to be very different.
Sometimes the road doesn’t lead you where you thought you were going.
Sometimes it leads you home.
After spending time salon shadowing,
I'm off to Moncton this weekend to get all six, maybe eight scissors sharpened. And it's all becoming real.
Cheers to loving life and for all the support you have given me on this page & in business.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart,
I love you all. 🥰
