"Some lovely folks from Dawson." 👋 That was us.
If you watched Dale's video this week, he talked about reaching out over the winter and getting back more help than he expected. He called us. We got just as much out of it as he did — probably more.
So here's our half of it: is continuing, Seeds is expanding, and Seeds is coming to Dawson. Mid-September.
We met Dale back in January. Plant-based, local, as little waste as we can manage — turned out we were both after the same things, and there aren't many kitchens in the Yukon chasing all three. When you meet people who share the vision and the values and the reasons behind them, the connection just starts building itself. It stopped being a question of whether we'd work together and became a question of when. The answer came sooner than any of us planned.
The part we're most looking forward to is the growers. Local food is still more of an aspiration for us than a reality — we've made a start with Judith and Jake, and we want it to be more of what we serve. Building those relationships properly is a big part of what keeps us moving forward.
And then there's the bit that really gets us. Two kitchens looking after each other, Six hundred kilometres apart. Dawson feeding Whitehorse. It almost always runs the other way — the city supplies the communities. This time a small town helps hold up the big one. We like that a lot.
Seeds lands here in a couple of weeks. After that, we've got a winter to plan the rest of it.
Whatever's next for Seeds and whatever's next for us, we do it together now. That feels pretty great.
