A Canadian first! 🇨🇦

So proud to have completed my Lipedema Therapist training and certification through the Lymphoedema Training Academy (LTA) and to be part of the first group of LTA-trained Lipedema Therapists in Canada.

It was such a special moment to have our group recognized at the conference this weekend. After all of the studying, learning and hands-on training, the photo up on that screen made it feel very real!

I’m excited to bring this additional education back to my practice and continue expanding the care, education and support I can provide for people living with lipedema.

There is still so much work to be done to improve awareness, recognition and care for lipedema in Canada, and I’m very grateful to be part of that progress. 💙🇨🇦

Such an exciting few days!

I’m so happy to have completed my Specialist Lipedema Management training and to be part of the first group of Lipedema Therapists trained in Canada!

This is an area I’m incredibly excited to bring more of into my practice. I’m looking forward to helping improve awareness, education and support for people living with lipedema—and putting everything I’ve learned into practice.

So grateful for the experience, the incredible instructors and this amazing group of therapists! 🥂

March 6 - World Lymphedema day 💙

Today is World Lymphedema Day, a day dedicated to raising awareness about lymphedema, a chronic condition that affects the lymphatic system and causes swelling in different areas of the body.

Lymphedema can occur when lymph vessels or lymph nodes are damaged, removed, or not functioning properly. It is often seen after cancer treatments, surgery, radiation, infection, or injury, but it can also occus as a primary (genetic) condition.

Common symptoms may include:
- Persistent swelling in the arm, leg, face, or trunk
- Rediced flexibility or movement
- Skin changes or recurrent infections

Although there is currently no cure, lymphedema can be effectively managed with proper care and treatment.

As a certified Lymphedema Therapist, I can help support lymphatic health through:
- Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD)
- Compression therapy
- Movement and exercise guidance
- Skin care education
- Self-management strategies

Early recognition and treatment are key to preventing progression and improving quality of life.

If you or someone you know is experiencing unexplained swelling, it may be important to seek an assessment from a trained professional.

Not all lymphatic drainage is the same.

If you are living with lymphedema, lipedema, cancer-related swelling, or post-surgical edema, proper training matters.

Certified Lymphedema Therapists complete 135+ hours of advanced, in-person training in Complete Degongestive Therapy-and this training builds on an existing regulated health care license.

This is not a weekend course.
This is specialized medical education.

RMTs are often particularly busy in December, which can contribute to burnout. Some ways that RMTs can reduce burnout include prioritizing a work-life balance, taking the time for self-care, learning new skills and techniques to use in practice, and getting massage therapy treatments themselves!
