I ask myself two questions a few times a year.
What do I want my last thoughts to be, when I’m old and it’s my time?
And what do I want said about me at my funeral?
Not as dark as it sounds. It’s actually the opposite.
Once you picture the end, the noise falls away fast. The stress about money. What people think of your choices.
The stuff you swore mattered this week.
None of it makes the cut.
What’s left is the people you loved, the time you actually gave them, and whether you showed up for it.
So I use those two questions to check myself.
Am I living like I already know that? Or am I waiting for the deathbed to figure it out?
Your last thoughts should be your dominating thoughts.
Today.
