Equipment Impact Series
Here is the third story in our series of posts highlighting the equipment and tools your donations make possible for the health care services we support.
In January 2026, the Lab Supervisor at Drayton Valley Hospital reached out to the Foundation asking for a new Holter Monitor machine. They had two machines, but needed a third to accommodate urgent requests for ER and Acute Care patients, which would help to decrease the length of wait times for their routine patients.
Welcome the GE SEER 1000 Holter Monitor – shown here by our patient model Harold Lowe, and Medical Lab Assistant Keaira Houle.
This small device records the heart's rhythm, and is worn by the patient for 48 hours. It is used to spot irregular heartbeats, also called arrhythmias. A Holter monitor test may be done if a traditional electrocardiogram (ECG or EKG) doesn't provide enough details about the heart's condition.
This little doodad cost $2416.00!
From the Supervisor of Drayton Valley Hospital Lab Services (Jodi Smith) and the entire lab team.
“To the Drayton Valley Health Foundation and all of the wonderful donors:
Drayton Valley Laboratory has recently received an additional Holter monitor, graciously donated by the Foundation. We cannot thank you enough for this generous donation. This extra Holter monitor expedites overall patient wait times and means cardiac testing can be completed more efficiently. Our wait times had previously reached over a month in advance, which was not ideal. We are steadily decreasing patient wait times for routine bookings and arenow able to offer urgent bookings for patients seen in the emergency room, acute care or other
urgent physician requests. This additional monitor also allows for much more flexibility in case a monitor is returned late or needs to be sent away for repair. We are so grateful for your continued support of healthcare services within our community! Thank you!”
It is not the Foundation, but you, our donors, who make this support possible.
Thank YOU for helping improve patient care in our community.
