One of the questions we get asked most often is: "Can kids see a chiropractor?"

Absolutely — and there are great reasons to consider it.

Children's bodies are constantly growing and adapting. Between heavy backpacks, hours on screens, growth spurts, and the tumbles that come with being a kid, their musculoskeletal systems handle a lot. Chiropractic care for children is very gentle — the techniques are adapted specifically for smaller, developing bodies.

Some common reasons families bring their kids in:

→ Growing pains — often related to how rapidly their musculoskeletal system is changing
→ Postural concerns — rounded shoulders and forward head posture are showing up younger and younger thanks to screens
→ Sports support — whether it's injury recovery or maintaining mobility for their activities
→ Headaches — increasingly common in school-age kids and often related to posture or tension

If you've ever wondered whether chiropractic care might help your child, we're happy to chat about whether it's a good fit.

Spend your day hunched over a screen? Your upper back is holding all of that.

This week’s move is a seated thoracic extension you can do right in your chair.

🔹 Sit tall and clasp your hands behind your head
🔹 Gently lean back, opening through your chest and upper back
🔹 Hold for a breath, return to centre, repeat

It counteracts that rounded desk posture we all fall into.

Try it a few times throughout the day.

One minute. One move. A healthier workday.

If starting a family is on your mind, even if it's still a "maybe" or "someday", there's a lot you can do right now to set yourself up for success.

Preconception health is about optimizing your body's readiness for pregnancy, and the ideal window to start is 3-6 months before you begin trying. This gives your body time to build nutrient stores, balance hormones, and address any underlying factors that could affect fertility.

A naturopathic approach to preconception care may include:

→ Nutritional optimization: ensuring adequate levels of key nutrients like folate, iron, vitamin D, and omega-3 fatty acids
→ Hormonal assessment: identifying and addressing imbalances in thyroid function, estrogen, progesterone, and other hormones
→ Supporting egg and s***m quality: both partners benefit from preconception care
→ Addressing underlying factors: things like blood sugar regulation, stress, sleep, and gut health all influence fertility

Dr. Carly King, ND has an area of focus in fertility and women's health, supporting patients from preconception through pregnancy and postpartum. If you're considering this path, a conversation about where you are and what your body might need is a great first step.

Pregnancy brings remarkable changes to your body, and your musculoskeletal system is right at the centre of it. As your baby grows, your centre of gravity shifts forward, your ligaments loosen (thanks to relaxin), and your pelvis and spine adapt to carry increasing load.

For many women, this means low back pain, pelvic discomfort, or round ligament pain that can range from annoying to debilitating. Chiropractic care during pregnancy is gentle, safe, and specifically adapted to support these changes.

What prenatal chiropractic care looks like at our clinic:

→ Gentle adjustments that respect the changes happening in your body
→ Techniques to maintain pelvic alignment, which can also support optimal fetal positioning
→ Soft tissue work to address the muscle tension that accompanies postural changes
→ Home exercises tailored to your trimester and comfort level

Chiropractic care is safe throughout all three trimesters and can be a valuable part of your prenatal care team.

If you sit at a desk, your upper back is begging for this.

That achy band between your shoulder blades? It builds up over hours of forward-reaching, keyboard-tapping, and screen-time slouching. Dr. Katelyn’s Upper Back Stretch resets it in under a minute.

How to do it:
→ Sit tall on the edge of your chair
→ Bring your arm in front of your chest
→ Gently tuck your chin down towards your chest, breathing into the space between your shoulder blades
→ Hold 20–30 seconds, then switch arms and repeat

What it targets: the rhomboids, mid-trapezius, and posterior shoulder — the muscles that get overworked from hours of desk posture.

Save this for the next time your upper back starts aching mid-afternoon.

If you’re dealing with recurring headaches, the source might surprise you.

Cervicogenic headaches originate from the upper cervical spine — the joints, muscles, and nerves in your neck. They’re often mistaken for tension headaches or migraines, but the treatment approach is quite different.

Here’s what sets them apart:

→ The pain typically starts at the base of your skull or upper neck and radiates forward
→ It’s usually one-sided and doesn’t switch
→ Neck stiffness or reduced range of motion often accompanies the headache
→ Symptoms tend to worsen after sustained postures, long drives, desk work, sleeping in an awkward position

The good news is that chiropractic care is particularly effective for cervicogenic headaches because it directly addresses the spinal restrictions and muscle tension that are causing them. Rather than just managing pain, we work on resolving the underlying mechanical issue.

If this sounds familiar, it’s worth having your neck assessed.

Sitting for long periods can leave our hamstrings feeling tight and our low back stiff. Today’s simple seated desk stretch is an easy way to improve flexibility, reduce tension, and get your body moving throughout the workday.

Seated Hamstring Stretch:
• Sit tall near the edge of your chair
• Extend one leg straight with your heel on the floor
• Keep your toes pointed toward the ceiling
• Gently hinge forward from your hips while keeping your back long
• Stop when you feel a gentle stretch along the back of your thigh
• Hold for 20–30 seconds
• Repeat on the other side

Movement is medicine. Even small stretch breaks throughout the day can make a big difference for your posture, circulation, and overall comfort.

PCOS has been officially renamed, and it’s been a long time coming.

As of last week, a landmark global consensus published in The Lancet has renamed Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) to Polyendocrine Metabolic Ovarian Syndrome (PMOS).

Why does a name matter? Because the old one was misleading.

“Polycystic ovaries” implied the condition was about cysts on the ovaries. It’s not.

The “cysts” seen on ultrasound are actually arrested follicles, and many people with this condition don’t have them at all.

PMOS better reflects what’s really going on: a complex, whole-body condition involving hormonal, metabolic, and reproductive health.

What this means for the 1 in 8 women affected:
→ Recognition that this is more than an “ovary problem”
→ A push for earlier, more accurate diagnosis
→ Better-informed research and treatment
→ Less stigma and more women being taken seriously

If you’ve been living with a PCOS/PMOS diagnosis — or suspect something isn’t right with your cycles, energy, skin, weight, or mood — a naturopathic doctor can help you look at the full picture.

Our Naturopathic Doctors, Dr. Carly King and Dr. Julia Tolton, have areas of focus in hormonal and women’s health, and they’d love to talk through what this means for your care.
