PCOS is now being recognized as PMOS
What is changing?
Many health professionals and researchers are discussing changing the name from PCOS (Polycystic O***y Syndrome) to PMOS (PolyMetabolic-Ovarian Syndrome) because the condition affects much more than just the ovaries.
Why the new name PMOS?
The term PCOS mainly focuses on ovarian cysts, but many women with PCOS:
Do not actually have ovarian cysts
Experience metabolic and hormonal issues throughout the body
May struggle with:
Insulin resistance
Weight gain
Fatigue
Acne
Irregular periods
Anxiety and mood changes
Infertility
Increased risk of diabetes and heart disease

The proposed name PMOS (PolyMetabolic-Ovarian Syndrome) highlights that this is a whole-body metabolic and hormonal condition - not just an ovarian issue.
Important to know

PCOS has not officially changed everywhere yet
Many doctors and organizations still use the term PCOS
PMOS is part of ongoing discussions to create a name that better reflects the condition

“PCOS is more than cysts. It is a metabolic and hormonal condition that deserves better understanding, early support, and compassionate care.”

Mitochondria are known as the “powerhouses” of our cells because they convert nutrients into adenosine triphosphate (ATP), the energy currency of the cell. In addition to producing energy, mitochondria play crucial roles in regulating oxidative stress, apoptosis (the process of cell renewal), and hormone signalling.

During menopause, decreasing levels of estrogen can directly affect mitochondrial function-

1. Estrogen helps maintain both the number and efficiency of mitochondria. It stabilizes mitochondrial membranes, which reduces damage caused by free radicals.

2. A decrease in estrogen can lead to less efficient ATP production, contributing to symptoms such as fatigue, brain fog, mood changes, and the accelerated aging often experienced during midlife.

💥 Symptoms that may be related to this dysfunction during menopause include:
• Low energy or chronic fatigue
• Brain fog or memory lapses
• Weight gain
• Muscle weakness or slower recovery
• Poor stress resilience
• Hot flashes

A holistic approach can help re-energize the body and support hormonal transitions:
• Antioxidants: Berries, leafy greens, turmeric, green tea, and dark chocolate help reduce oxidative stress.
• Magnesium & CoQ10: Crucial for ATP synthesis.
• Regular movement: Walking, resistance training, and yoga enhance mitochondrial biogenesis.
• Deep sleep allows mitochondria to repair and regenerate.
•Avoid toxins and potential sources of mitochondrial dysfunction-pesticides, herbicides, fungicides, heavy metals, antibacterial agents, pharmaceutical drugs( antibiotics, NSAIDs, antivirals, beta-blockers, etc),
Be mindful of the chemicals found in personal care products and makeup, as they can significantly impact hormone levels.
✨ This is your time to feel vibrant, strong, and fully alive.
