15! Today Shades of Grey turned 15!

And tonight, many of the folks who helped make our studio what it is, past and present, gathered to celebrate. 15 years is a long time for any small business and feels especially long in this industry. We would not have gotten here without the hard work, artistry, talent, professionalism and love of everyone in this photo (and a few who were unable to make it tonight).

We also wouldn’t have made it here without the thousands of amazing clients and friends who have gotten tattooed at the studio in that time.

A shop is more than any one component. It’s how everyone from front end to artist to owner to client all come together to make something special. And this studio has been something special to a lot of us since we started in 2010. We’ve defied some heavy odds and we’re better off for it.

It’s been a wild 15 years. Here’s to 15 more.

We’re very excited to announce that Kate Brilz is joining us at Shades of Grey! Kate has been tattooing since 2016, and has a love of all things colourful. She’s always game to create something unique for all her clients and has a preference for anime, illustrative, neotrad and all things nerdy. Working in walk in shops most of her career, Kate has built skills in a large range of styles including realism, trad, fine line and more. She loves building relationships with her clients and making a warm welcoming space for all.

We’re super stoked to announce that Porter Coupal will be joining us starting April 1st!

Porter has been tattooing for nearly six years. His tattoo style is traditional, inspired with bold lines and bright saturated colours. He enjoys working with clients to develop unique ideas, especially anything horror, gore, or animal themed. Porter will be regularly posting his available flash and is happy to work around his client’s schedule and within their budget.

Join us in welcoming Porter to the shop by giving him a follow and by booking in something sweet with him! He’s got plenty of rad designs ready to go!

Shades of Grey is incredibly excited to announce that Aaron Corbin will be joining our crew! Give him a follow and swipe to see some of his work.

Tattooing for nearly a decade, Aaron has developed a bold traditional style of tattooing which envelopes his love of high fantasy and sci-fi. Skulls, panthers, eagles and pop culture references make up his arsenal of flash books. Colour or black and grey, Aaron has 100s of designs and ideas ready to go. He’ll be starting in early Feb so email him in advance to set up an appointment when he arrives!
