Hitting a moose or a deer on the road is a fear shared by many motorists. Here are some tips from CAA to help minimize or prevent serious injuries:

• Make sure you are alert and sober when driving.

• Keep your seatbelt buckled at all times.

• Drive more slowly at night: this will give you more time to react to unexpected events.

• Look for signs announcing a moose crossing. They are not placed at random—they in fact indicate high-risk areas.

• Scan both sides of the road as far as possible in front of you. Is there a passenger with you? They can also keep a lookout.

• Keep your windshield clean.

• Keep your headlights clean, particularly in the winter, and well adjusted. In the evening, drive with your high beams on whenever possible.

• Be cautious in areas with reduced visibility, for example on hills and entering turns or sides of the road where vegetation is particularly dense.

Starting September 1st the City of Edmonton will start the automated enforcement of the new 40 km/h speed limit throughout most residential and downtown streets. By having this new speed limit, it will give people more time to react to the unexpected which will help prevent crashes and reduce the severity of collisions that do happen.

If you are worried about how your commutes will be affected, the City of Edmonton has developed an ETA tool which allows you to add your starting point and destination and it will calculate the additional time added on to your commute.

Starting August 6, 2021, the speed limit is 40 km/h on most residential and downtown streets.

Safety Ahead Ltd. extends our deepest condolences to the family, co-workers, and friends of the 26 year old worker that was tragically killed on Saturday August 2, 2021 due to a black bear attack.

While attacks on humans from black bears are rare, they are not unheard of, so it’s important to consider wildlife as a potential hazard, especially when working in remote areas. If you, your workers, or your company work in remote locations that are active for bears and other wildlife, and require assistance in developing a Bear Awareness Program or Biological Hazards Practices - we would love to help you!

Please contact us @ 780-473-4772 or [email protected] for further information!
