Round faces are very common and a beautiful aesthetic for many of our patients. However, sometimes patients will request to elongate the face, as well as give it more definition. 🧐

The good news is, with a rounder face, typically there is much more structure and support. What does this mean?

Rounder faces will age better compared to elongated faces with the extra volume. 🥳

If the request is for sharper contours on the face, the best approach is to inject dermal fillers. Dermal fillers can sculpt the face, as well as slim the face, to create contour and shape for rounder faces. 💉

Chin dermal filler will also sculpt the face by creating length. Adding these structural contours will give the appearance of an oval shape to our female patients. For our male patients we prefer a square shape to enhance their masculine aesthetic. 🧔🏾

This leads to the question is injection of the masseter with botox is a good idea to slim a round face? 🤔

In my practice, I don’t agree with this treatment to help with rounding of the facial structure. Botox can be a fantastic option for masseters that are very wide, however, it comes with its own set of risks.

These include: effects on smile function, facial muscle structure imbalance, as well as softens the definition of the jawline. 🙏
