SCI Alberta is a charity, non-profit that offers free consultations, referrals and support to clients and their social networks to achieve independence and full community participation. About Us

Since 1945, the Canadian Paraplegic Association has been helping Canadians with spinal cord injuries and other physical disabilities. Started by a core group of WWII veterans in Ontario, the association h

as expanded to include offices in almost every province. Since then, it has been a leader in offering support, direct service, information and advocacy to Albertans with spinal cord injuries and other physical disabilities. Our Mission

To assist persons with spinal cord injuries and other physical disabilities to achieve independence, self-reliance and full community participation. Whether it be assisting a newly spinal cord injured child or adult, lobbying for better public transportation, or helping to create a more inclusive community, SCI Alberta embraces the approach that there is more than one way. Vision

Albertans with spinal cord injury and other physical disabilities will enjoy optimal physical, spiritual, economic and emotional well-being within fully accessible and welcoming communities free of physical, attitudinal and systemic barriers. This broad vision is shared in many respects with our partner organizations and agencies. Within this context, SCI Alberta strives to deliver the following visionary outcomes:

Albertans with SCI and their families will be aware of and have access to SCI Alberta services and supports

Clients and their families will adjust more successfully to the personal effects of injury and disability

Clients will achieve increased independence, self-reliance and community participation. Barriers to independence and inclusion will be reduced for people with SCI and other physical disabilities in Alberta communities

SCI Alberta will be a stable and sustainable organization. Spinal Cord Injury Awareness Month is here.

This month, we're celebrating the strength it takes to adjust, adapt, and thrive. A spinal cord injury can change life in an instant, but it doesn't take away determination, hope, or community.

Every day, the individuals and families we support show us what resilience really looks like. Whether it's relearning everyday tasks, navigating a new normal, or finding their way back to the things they love, they remind us that thriving looks different for everyone.

Meet Rob!
Rob MacIsaac is one of SCI Alberta's Client Services Coordinators and is based in Edmonton.

After sustaining a spinal cord injury in 2004, he became involved in peer mentoring through the Canadian Paraplegic Association in Nova Scotia. That experience inspired him to pursue a career in Social Work.

Rob joined SCI Alberta in 2019 after graduating from MacEwan University with a Social Work Diploma. He works closely with clients, families, and service providers to help people transition from hospital to community and connect with the supports they need.

Outside of work, Rob is an avid wheelchair rugby athlete and a former member of Canada’s National Development Wheelchair Rugby Team. The teamwork, resilience, and leadership he developed through sport continue to shape his approach to supporting others every day.

Thanks for everything you do Rob!
