Can laser hair removal cause burns? Yes, it can — especially if a poor-quality or non–Health Canada-licensed device is being used, if the wrong settings are selected, or if the treatment is performed by someone who isn’t properly trained.

One of the most important things in laser hair removal is choosing the correct energy and settings for each skin tone. You cannot use the same settings on every client.

For example, using inappropriate high energy on darker skin can increase the risk of burns or pigmentation changes.

At Desire Laser, we use the Clinix Quatrix™, a Health Canada–licensed laser system with four wavelengths, including 1064 nm Nd:YAG, which is commonly used for darker skin types.

We follow proper treatment parameters based on your skin tone, hair type, and treatment area.

Most importantly, our technicians are professionally trained and experienced with the Clinix Quatrix, so they know how to select the appropriate parameters for different skin tones.
