And just like that, it’s September!

My summer was full of community and creativity leading up to and during the Edmonton Fringe Festival. It was a wonderful experience!

I’m now doing my best to catch up on administrative work and preparing for the start of the busy season for body work. Many people remember they have medical benefits to use before year end, so they start booking multiple visits in these last few months of the year.

I’ve opened my schedule until the end of the year online at remedial.JaneApp.com

Please be sure to utilize my waitlist if you can’t find a time that works and I’ll do my best to get you in.

A gentle reminder that I offer Registered Massage Therapy and Osteopathic Manual Therapy. My treatment approach is therapeutic, investigative and rehabilitative. If you are looking for more of a luxury or relaxation massage, I can offer the names of several practitioners who excel in that approach.

Pictured here: a sleepy Saturday morning selfie - the day was made better by Nadine surprising me with iced coffee at Remedial Wellness 💜

Around this time last year I received the shocking notice that my school had suddenly closed.

I’d finished all 4.5 years of curriculum. All that was missing was a final research paper that I’d put off while I was dealing with significant issues in my personal life. I was not in a position to take on any more challenge at that time, so I’d paused, as many others had over the years.

But the uncertainty caused by the announcement was awful. Different information was coming from all sides and the organization that regulates private training institutions turned out to have relatively minimal safeguards in place for students. I’d spent over $40K in tuition - not including all the travel and accommodations over those years - and I no longer knew if that was going to amount to anything.

Months later a solution was created for the group of nearly 40 people in my position. And while I was still not ready to take on anything more than I was already carrying at the time, I somehow managed to get through it.

It took several more months before it was official, and even then, I waited a little longer to finally launch my Osteopathy practice. As much as I love the work, I’d become disheartened by the industry and I needed time to recover from all that had worn me down in the years prior.

After opening that side of my practice, I quickly remembered what all that work was for 💜

Today I am grateful for the positive outcome and to finally be out of “student mode”. I’ve had the capacity to take on some other things that bring me joy and I actually have some work-life balance 🙌

Sometimes extended storm seasons leads to the biggest growth and brightest blooms at the end 💜

I am working a little less over the coming weeks while participating in a show for this year’s Fringe Festival!

There’s still some schedule availability throughout August and my fall schedule is officially online at www.remedial.JaneApp.com!

It’s been a busy couple of months in my neck of the woods! Lots of new faces have been coming in for Osteopathy and I’ve loved getting to put all my training into more consistent practice 💜

Having said that, my schedule has been filling faster than what’s been typical lately. Please remember to give as much notice as possible if you need to cancel or reschedule an appointment so the spot can potentially be filled by someone else 🙏

My fall schedule will be online shortly! I look forward to seeing you for treatment soon 💜

FINALLY!
I applied to have my second designation added to the Telus portal in mid May.
It took several follow up phone calls, emails and nagging to get them to update their system, which finally happened this week.
Now I can direct bill for Osteopathic Manual Therapy to insurers on the Telus portal, including Manulife, Canada Life and many others 🙌
The online portals for insurers like Sunlife, Greenshield and Cooperators were quickly activated when I applied. Unfortunately, Telus has many insurance companies under their umbrella, so this became a frustrating delay.
This ultimately means I can now direct bill to all insurers, except for Alberta Blue Cross. Please be sure to check your individual policy to see if you have coverage for Osteopathic Manual Therapy!

My social media tells me that I am celebrating six years of practice in Edmonton! 🙌

My manual therapy career has provided me experience working in a variety of communities, including: Yellowknife, NWT; Fort McMurray, AB; and all over Vancouver Island (Victoria, Parksville, Courtney and Campbell River). I even spent time working at a heliski lodge in northern BC, just before completing my board licensing exams!

After years of frequent relocating, I arrived in Edmonton just in time for Covid lockdowns. I spent months unable to work and then tried to build my practice while still traveling to and from Vancouver to finish my studies at the Canadian School of Osteopathy.

It took a long time for Edmonton to feel like home and even longer to find the right practice space. Despite significant obstacles, I recently completed my D.O.M.P. and have finally started evolving my practice from strictly massage to a dual license. I’m enjoying getting to use the knowledge I fought so hard to obtain and am welcoming all the new faces coming in for classical Osteopathy.

This is the longest I’ve practiced in any community and in many ways, it feels as though my work here is just beginning 💜

It wasn’t ideal weather for it, but I still enjoyed getting to speak to other wellness vendors and the staff at Alberta Blue Cross during their annual Block Party yesterday. Many of our AAOMT members are in Calgary, so it’s good that our association is having more of a presence in the Edmonton community! Alberta Association of Osteopathy Manual Therapists
