I first learned anatomy from the diagrams too.
And I loved them. In fact, this book is still a treasured belonging because itās where I fell in love with human anatomy.
But over the years, Iāve learned that the diagrams can quietly lead us to believe something that isnāt actually true about the human bodyā¦
That there is one ānormalā body.
There isnāt.
There are averages. There are ranges. There are common patterns.
And then there are the actual humans standing in front of us.
Our proportions vary. Our structures vary. Our tissues change. Our range of motion changes.
Even the same body doesnāt necessarily move the same way every day.
The diagram is useful. The measurement is useful. The average is useful.
But none of them are the human.
If you really want to understand movement, you have to stop asking āwhatās normal?ā And start asking āwhatās happening in THIS body?ā
This is day five of finding my people.
If youāre less interested in memorizing the diagram and more interested in understanding the human in front of you⦠weāre probably going to get along.
