We hear a LOT about the risks of HRT. But what about the benefits? 💚

Menopause hormone therapy (MHT) can be an incredibly valuable option for some women during perimenopause and menopause—and it deserves a more balanced conversation.

Here are some of the potential benefits women should know about:

✔️ MHT is the most effective treatment for hot flashes and night sweats and is considered first-line therapy for bothersome vasomotor symptoms.

✔️ MHT can help maintain bone density and reduce the risk of osteoporosis and fractures as we age

✔️ MHT can maintain and improve vaginal and urinary health. It can help with vaginal dryness, pain, urinary incontinence, reduce recurrent UTIs and improve other genitourinary symptoms of menopause.

✔️ MHT may improve sleep quality, mood, and overall energy

✔️ MHT may support metabolic health and have beneficial effects on body composition and fat distribution for some people

✔️ Timing matters. For women who are appropriate candidates, starting MHT around the time of menopause or within about 10 years may have important heart health benefits.

✔️ Research is continuing to explore how menopause and hormone therapy affect cognitive and brain health. MHT may help support long-term cognitive health and brain function.

The bottom line? There are benefits, and we’re still learning.

HRT isn't right for everyone, and the decision to use it should be individualized based on your symptoms, health history, age, timing of menopause, and personal risk factors.

But women deserve to know the potential benefits—not just the risks.💚

🌙 Having trouble sleeping? Let’s talk about AOR Ortho Sleep

Sleep is one of those things where I’m very hesitant to say, “Just take this.”

Because sleep problems can have a lot of different causes, and what helps one person may not help another.

That said, Ortho Sleep is a product I’ve had some clients tell me has made a noticeable difference for their sleep.

So what’s in it?

It’s a combination of ingredients including melatonin, L-theanine, valerian, lemon balm, GABA, 5-HTP, and passionflower—ingredients that have been studied for their potential roles in relaxation, sleep onset, and sleep quality.

Does that mean it’s a magic sleep solution? Absolutely not.

The evidence for the individual ingredients varies, and supplements aren’t a substitute for figuring out why you’re not sleeping well in the first place.

But for the right person, a product like this may be worth considering.

And this is where I think your pharmacist can be helpful: we can look at your medications, health history, other supplements, and what your sleep actually looks like—and help you decide whether this is something worth trying.

We carry products we believe can be useful. We just don’t believe everyone needs every product we carry. 💚

If you’re curious about Ortho Sleep, come talk to us. We’re happy to help you figure out whether it makes sense for you.

To a big pharmacy, you might be a number in a queue.

To us, you’re a name.
A face we recognize.
A story we remember.
A family we’ve gotten to know.

We know your medications.
We know what your kids are allergic to.
We know when something doesn’t seem quite right.
We know when you’ve had a tough week—and when something is worth celebrating.

Because when you’re part of a small, independent pharmacy, you’re not just a prescription.

You’re a person we care about.
A relationship we value.
A reason we keep showing up every day. 💚

Starting hormone therapy is just the beginning.

One of the biggest misconceptions about menopausal hormone therapy (MHT) is that it's a "set it and forget it" treatment.

It isn't.

The first year is the adjustment phase! MHT is nuanced. It often takes time to find the right regimen, the right dose, and the right balance for you. We need to learn how your body responds, where you feel your best. We might adjust the dose, try a different formulation, and stop and restart. This is normal.

Too often, I meet people who have already started hormone therapy but are left wondering:

Is this working?

How long should it take before I notice a difference?

Which symptoms should improve—and which won't?

Are these side effects normal?

Should my dose be adjusted?

These are important questions. And they deserve answers.

The truth is that MHT should be followed up, reassessed, and individualized. Your symptoms, goals, response to therapy, and any side effects all help guide whether your treatment is working as intended—or whether it needs to be adjusted.

You deserve more than just a prescription. You deserve education, follow-up, and a clinician who understands the science and can confidently guide your therapy every step of the way.

Because starting MHT isn't the finish line—it's the beginning.

When it comes to gas station sushi and AI medical advice…proceed with caution. 😂

AI can be incredibly helpful, but it also get things wrong a LOT. And when it comes to your health, there’s a big difference between getting an answer and getting the right answer for you.

ChatGPT doesn’t know your full medical history. It doesn’t see you, hear you, or know what questions to ask. It can’t examine you, apply clinical nuance, or put your symptoms, medications, lab results, and history together in the context of you the way your healthcare team can.

And sometimes, the most important part of healthcare isn’t the answer—it’s knowing which questions to ask next.

So I know you’re going to Google your symptoms. I know you’re going to ask ChatGPT about that lab result. 😂

Just please take what you read with a grain of salt, and talk it through with your pharmacist, doctor, or healthcare team before making decisions about your health.

AI can be a tool.

But it doesn’t know you. And it shouldn’t replace the people who do. 💚

Let’s make September the month you get back to easier.

Back to school. Back to routines. Back to busy mornings.

But one thing shouldn’t have to feel complicated: knowing your family’s health is in good hands.

Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of watching so many families grow. I’ve gotten to know the little ones who came in with their parents, and now come in on their own. I’ve cared for parents, grandparents, and sometimes three generations of the same family.

And some of those little ones aren’t so little anymore. They’ve grown up, headed off to school, and now come into the pharmacy on their own. And even when they’re miles away, they know they can still call me when they have a question or need some advice.

That’s what makes being a community pharmacist so special to me. It’s not just about filling prescriptions—it’s about building relationships that grow with you and caring for your family through every stage of life.

Because when it comes to your family’s health, personal care makes a difference.

We’re here to make keeping your family healthy easier 💚

Here's a mistake I see too often...

Estrogen gets increased.

Progesterone isn’t reassessed.

For people with a uterus taking systemic estrogen, progesterone isn't just there to "balance hormones." Its primary role is to help protect the lining of the uterus (endometrium) from the effects of estrogen.

That's why, when an estrogen dose is increased, it's important to review whether the progesterone regimen is still appropriate. Too often, I see estrogen adjusted while progesterone stays the same—without reassessing whether it's still providing adequate endometrial protection.

The right progesterone regimen depends on several factors, including:
💚 Your estrogen dose
💚 Whether your hormone therapy is continuous or cyclical
💚 Your medical history
💚 Any abnormal bleeding
💚 Your individual risk factors

Hormone therapy isn't one-size-fits-all. It should be individualized and adjusted as your needs change.

If your estrogen has changed recently, ask whether your progesterone should be reviewed too.

Magnesium doesn't get nearly enough attention.

Yet it's involved in more than 300 biochemical reactions throughout the body, supporting everything from muscle and nerve function to energy production, blood sugar regulation, sleep, and bone health.

The challenge? Many people aren't getting enough magnesium from their diet, and certain medications, medical conditions, alcohol use, and chronic stress can all contribute to lower magnesium levels.

Low magnesium status may contribute to symptoms like:

Muscle cramps or twitching

Fatigue

Poor sleep

Headaches or migraines

Constipation

Increased stress or anxiety

The good news? If magnesium is appropriate for you, optimizing your intake—through food or supplements—can be a simple way to support overall health.

Not all magnesium supplements are the same, either. Different forms are absorbed differently and may be better suited for different goals.

Wondering whether you're getting enough magnesium? We'd be happy to help you choose the right approach.
