Testosterone and libido. That's the conversation everyone has.
But that's MAYBE ten percent of what testosterone actually does for women. Swipe through for the full picture.
Here is what we discuss with every patient at Red Leaf Wellness when testosterone comes up:
Muscle mass and metabolism: Testosterone is your primary hormone for building and maintaining muscle tissue. Muscle is your metabolic engine. When testosterone declines β and it often begins declining before estrogen does β your metabolism shifts before anything else you'd recognise as a menopause symptom.
Bone density: Testosterone works in concert with estrogen and progesterone to protect skeletal integrity. Its decline is directly associated with accelerated bone loss.
Brain health and motivation: Low testosterone in women is linked to cognitive fog, flat affect, loss of ambition, and social withdrawal. When patients tell me the spark is gone β that they don't recognise their own drive anymore β testosterone is almost always part of that picture.
This is not a men's hormone. It never was.
If you've been told testosterone is only relevant to libido β we need to have a much bigger conversation. π
Have you felt your spark fade and wondered why? Let's talk in the comments. π
