Sometimes the biggest meltdowns, shutdowns or exhaustion happen in the place we feel safest.

Restraint collapse isn’t about defiance or “bad behaviour.” It can be what happens when a neurodivergent nervous system has spent all day coping, masking and holding it together.

The goal isn’t better masking. It’s creating environments where there’s less need to mask in the first place. 🤍

EMDR therapy can help take the emotional intensity out of painful or distressing memories, allowing them to feel more like something that happened in the past, rather than something your mind and body are still reliving.

Swipe to learn a little more about EMDR, how it works, and who may benefit.

For many women, an autism diagnosis doesn’t come in childhood.

It comes after years, sometimes decades, of wondering why things that seemed effortless for other people felt so exhausting.

Why friendships required so much analysis.
Why sensory overwhelm felt so intense.
Why routines mattered so much.
Why they could appear incredibly capable while privately struggling to keep up.
Why anxiety, depression, burnout, ADHD, or other diagnoses seemed to explain some of the picture, but never quite all of it.

Research continues to highlight how autism can be overlooked or misidentified in women. Autistic women may show a greater drive for social connection, have interests that appear more socially typical, and become highly skilled at masking, mimicking, scripting, and compensating for differences others don’t see.

And masking can work… until it becomes exhausting.

For someone receiving an autism diagnosis later in life, there can be an enormous amount to process. Relief. Validation. Grief. Anger. Recognition. Re-examining childhood, relationships, work, parenting, burnout, and years of believing “I should be able to handle this.”

A late diagnosis doesn’t suddenly make someone autistic. It can finally give language to an experience that was there all along.

At Harmony Haven, we believe neuro-affirming support isn’t about teaching people to appear less autistic. It’s about understanding your nervous system, recognizing your needs, reducing shame, honouring capacity, and creating a life that requires less masking to survive.

If you’re exploring a recent diagnosis, or simply beginning to wonder whether autism might be part of your story, you deserve a space where curiosity is welcomed and your experiences are taken seriously.

Postpartum depression doesn’t always look like sadness.

Sometimes it looks like irritability. Feeling disconnected. Constant worry. Guilt. Anger. Numbness. Feeling like you should be happy while quietly wondering why everything feels so hard.

And it can happen to first-time parents, experienced parents, and adoptive parents. Symptoms can even begin during pregnancy.

The transition into parenthood can bring enormous physical, hormonal, emotional, and relational changes.. often alongside very little sleep and a whole lot of pressure to “soak up every moment.”

You don’t have to wait until things feel unbearable to reach out for support.

Because taking care of you matters, too. 🤍

Your nervous system is always trying to protect you, even when it doesn’t feel that way.

Stress, trauma, chronic pain, anxiety, and overwhelming life experiences can leave the nervous system feeling stuck in survival mode. When that happens, your body may continue responding as though you’re unsafe, even when the danger has passed.

Healing isn’t about forcing yourself to “just calm down.” It’s about gently helping your nervous system experience safety again.

In therapy, we can work together to better understand your body’s responses, build practical regulation strategies, and create experiences that help you feel more grounded, connected, and secure.

A protected nervous system can learn to feel safe again.

Introducing Roots & Readiness!

A 3 day therapeutic group, offered by mental health professionals, designed to help youth build confidence, emotional resilience, and practical skills before heading back to school.

This isn’t tutoring. It isn’t a lecture. It’s a supportive space where youth can connect with peers, better understand themselves, and develop strategies that actually work for their unique and developing brains.

Each session combines psychoeducation, therapeutic activities, group discussion, and individualized strategies that participants can apply at home and at school.

This group is ideal for youth who:
✔️ Feel anxious about returning to school
✔️ Struggle with organization, time management, or procrastination
✔️ Are neurodivergent or benefit from additional support
✔️ Want to build confidence and social connections in a welcoming, neuro-affirming environment

✨ Meet Rebecca ✨

Some of you may remember Rebecca from our Roots & Resilience group last fall. We received such wonderful feedback about her calm, compassionate approach that I’m so excited to share that she’s taking on a bigger role at Harmony Haven.

Rebecca Cobban is a Registered Social Service Worker with over 15 years of experience supporting children, youth, and families. Her work is grounded in a trauma-informed and neuro-affirming approach, creating spaces where young people feel safe, understood, and empowered to build on their strengths.

Rebecca offers:
🤍 Family and Behavioural Supports
🤍 Executive functioning support
🤍 Emotional regulation and stress management
🤍 Individualized 1:1 support
🤍 Caregiver consultation
🤍 Engaging therapeutic groups

One of the things I appreciate most about Rebecca is her ability to meet young people exactly where they are. She brings warmth, practical strategies, and a collaborative approach that helps families create meaningful, lasting change, not just in the moment, but over time.

Her services are reimbursable through many extended health benefit plans, as well as OAP and SSAH funding, making support more accessible for families who need it.

I’m so grateful to have Rebecca as part of the Harmony Haven team and can’t wait for more families to experience the incredible support she provides 😊
