I wish I had protected my lips from the sun sooner. ☀️

Last winter, I treated my face with 5FU -C(5-fluorouracil + calcipotriol) for areas of advanced sun damage (actinic keratoses, SCC). During treatment, I noticed my lips started to flare up too.

This time, we treated the lips directly.

And the areas that reacted weren’t simply “dry lips.” They were advanced sun-damaged changes that can potentially progress to skin cancer if left untreated.

The crazy part? I had almost no symptoms.
Just a few dry spots that kept chafing and wouldn’t seem to stay happy.

And honestly, I know exactly where some of that damage came from.

As a teenager and young adult, I spent hours tanning on my parents’ deck. ☀️

I was religious about getting a tan.

I was not religious about protecting my lips. 😬

We’re so used to thinking about sunscreen for our face, neck and chest that the lips can become an afterthought.

So here’s your reminder:

👄 Protect your lips with broad-spectrum SPF 30+
☀️ Reapply when you’re outdoors
✨ Antioxidants like Vitamin C can provide additional antioxidant support — but they do NOT replace SPF.

And if you have a lip area that stays rough, dry, scaly, cracked or repeatedly irritated, don’t automatically assume it’s just chapped lips. Get it checked.

I’m sharing my photos because I wish someone had shown me what sun damage on the lips can actually look like.

Save this for your next sunscreen restock — and send it to a friend who is religious about her face SPF but forgets her lips. 👄☀️

Please please please stop the tox parties! And the basement tox injections.. please!!

This is your FACE.. tox (if you’re getting the real stuff) changes muscle strength.

When you see someone who learnt off a weekend course and then opened their own clinic, not learning from hands on experiences injectors? You’re playing with fire!

You get what you pay for.. a reputable, experienced injector is charging not just for tox unit price.

The cost covers my 1000h+ of education in the field, cadaver labs, anatomy courses, follow up appointments where we assess for touch ups, and my knowledge for all other areas of aesthetics. And let’s not kid.. 25+ years as a nurse working in so many areas and as an educator, you’re asking for some serious learning if you have questions!

I’m not just following some pre designated dosing. I reassess at EVERY appointment and change the dose as your muscle movement and the aspects of your face change.. fat pad and bone loss, collagen changes.. etc. I check for asymmetry and treat muscles that we often are trying not to treat because muscle asymmetry can be complex. I also educate on health concerns, changes, and what can be done to get the to the goal you’re trying to achieve. Using the dosing you need, and sometimes it means dosing goes down, up, or I say it’s not recommended.

So please, consider what you are paying for. And # of followers and online recommendations in bulk should make you wary. They can be bought. Trust me, often the people with the most recommendations are the ones I’m having to do repair work on their clients the most 🫩.
