A little note of- thank you🌿

I realized recently how quiet I’ve been on here this summer—while behind the scenes, the work has been anything but quiet.

I’m currently booking appointments for mid to late October, and I will be away for a window of time in September as my daughter and I embark on a pilgrimage together in Spain.

So, before I go, I simply want to say thank you.

To those of you who continue to trust me with your bodies, your stories, your healing, your families, your grief, your growth, and all of the complicated, beautiful places in between—I don’t take that trust lightly.

And thank you for your flexibility with me, too.

Alongside my regular clinic work, I continue to offer birth support and pre- and post-surgical care. Babies, of course, arrive on their own schedules, and sometimes this work requires a little shifting and coordinating on my end. I know that can occasionally mean flexibility from you as well, and I am deeply grateful for it.

As we head back into the school year, I’m also adding a couple of after-school appointments that I’ll hold primarily for your kiddos, so they don’t have to miss school to come and see me. If you’re booking for your child and need an after-school time, just ask and I’ll let you know what is available.

Thank you for continuing to show up.
Thank you for referring the people you love.
Thank you for allowing me to keep doing work that I care so deeply about.

There is so much I could say about what I’ve been witnessing in the treatment room lately, but perhaps today it is enough simply to say:

Thank you.

Thinking doesn’t release emotion.

Feeling does.

Emotion is felt as sensation in the body—in the chest, the stomach, the throat, the armpits, the legs, or wherever it shows up for you.

When we stay in our heads, trying to explain, analyze, justify, or fix what we’re feeling, we often amplify the experience instead of resolving it. The mind creates more story, and the story creates more activation.

Healing happens when we gently turn our attention toward the sensation itself.

Can you feel the tightness?
Can you feel the ache?
Can you feel the heat, the pressure, the heaviness, the trembling?

Without needing to explain it.

When we sit with the feeling rather than the story, the body can begin to process and digest what was once indigestible. What has been held can start to move. What has been frozen can begin to soften. The indigestible can begin to digest.

The feeling is not the problem.

The feeling is often the pathway through.

Dads & Solstice🤎
What a beautiful day to celebrate.

‘May the long time sun shine upon you,
All love surround you,
And the pure light within you
Guide your way on.’

To all the dads, step/chosen dads, grandfathers, mentors, and father figures- thank you for the ways you show up, steady the path, and help carry what matters.

Happy Solstice. Happy Father’s Day

Wild Rose 🌿 A plant of resilience.
A reminder that strength and softness can exist together.

I’ve been noticing these little beauties everywhere lately.
As a medicine gatherer, I never know exactly when I’ll be harvesting. It’s a process of watching, listening, and paying attention—to the plants, the weather, the moon, and the rhythms unfolding around us.
It looks like this is the week for wild rose.

Its petals have traditionally been used to soothe the nervous system and support the heart, while its hips provide nourishment rich in vitamin C and antioxidants.

Wild rose feels especially meaningful to me. My Métis great-grandmother’s last name was La Rose, and each of my children carries Rose within their name, continuing that lineage.

My children usually harvest with me but they are away this week, however I’m still looking forward to heading out with my snippers and harvesting basket this week. For me, it is always an enjoyable honour (and part of the medicine) to gather for my family and my community:)

Some mornings
the black dog waits beside the bed
before I even open my eyes.

His head heavy on the mattress
at the foot of the bed.

Waiting.

Through street noise.
Through conversations I perform
Through rooms where I smile
while disappearing inside myself.

It drinks the colour from things.

Music flattens.
Food loses taste.
Even laughter sounds distant-
like it belongs to people
standing in another season.

But sometimes,
without warning
openings.

Sunlight coming through the door
in that golden, ordinary way
catching the dark strands
still floating in the air
where the black dog passed through.

Bare feet on wet ground.

An old rope swing beneath the spruce trees.

Toes reaching toward the sky,
wind loud in my ears
and for one clean moment
I forget the black dog
sleeping beneath the tree.

I used to run from him too.

Leaping from the swing,
racing breathless through the grass
certain I could leave him behind-

only to stop
and feel the cold touch of his nose
against my back.

And maybe healing
was never about
sending the black dog away.

Maybe it was never something to fear
just a faithful companion
who stayed with me
through every season.

Now when it walks beside me,
I sometimes reach down
and rub the soft place behind its ear.

And it leans there.

Familiar now.
Quieter than before.

We walk together now,
but it no longer chooses the path.

When things move too quickly

There is sometimes a tension

Gripping my chest

Thief of breath

Soil, touch, lead of my pencil
Stills the moment.

Slows it down

Until it feels like love

Ease

the signature of presence
Just might be
love
