We love Amy story 🫶 🌱

In 2015 I took my CFM training at Greener Village in Fredericton. By 2016 I was really wanting to learn about permaculture, but I couldn't find any training opportunities in the Maritimes. I studied and practiced on my own for two years and in 2018 formed the Permaculture Atlantic Network. Today the network connects people to training, resources and other practitioners throughout Atlantic Canada and we even incorporate information from our friends in Maine and other areas of our Wabanaki-Acadian bio-region. From 2018 to 2021 we had regular "Permachats" meets ups and Permablitz work parties, wrapped up with amazing potlucks. The Conservation Council of NB was a great partner in giving us a central meeting space from time to time. Megan continues to run the network from Ships Harbour, Nova Scotia. Being a Community Food Mentor helped so much in my ability to network with other caring folks around the province.

En 2015, j’ai suivi ma formation MCA à Greener Village, à Fredericton. En 2016, j’avais vraiment envie d’approfondir mes connaissances en permaculture, mais je ne trouvais aucune formation dans les Maritimes. J’ai étudié et pratiqué de manière autonome pendant deux ans, puis j’ai créé le Permaculture Atlantic Network en 2018. Aujourd’hui, le réseau met en relation les gens avec des formations, des ressources et d’autres praticiens dans tout le Canada atlantique, et nous intégrons même des informations provenant de nos amis du Maine et d’autres régions de notre biorégion wabanaki-acadienne. De 2018 à 2021, nous avons organisé régulièrement des rencontres « Permachats » et des chantiers Permablitz, qui se terminaient par de superbes repas-partage. Le Conservation Council of NB a été un excellent partenaire en nous fournissant de temps à autre un lieu de rencontre central. Megan continue de diriger le réseau depuis Ships Harbour, en Nouvelle-Écosse. Mon rôle de mentor communautaire en alimentation m’a beaucoup aidée à tisser des liens avec d’autres personnes engagées à travers la province.

We love Lisa story 🫶 🌱

Over the past few years, we’ve been planting perennial foods along the parking lot and filling garden boxes with things like tomatoes, cucumbers, onions, strawberries, and more. This year I’m hoping to add currants as well! We also have a couple apple trees and a cherry tree growing in the space.

Many years ago, I started painting the parking lot to make it a more fun and welcoming community space, and since then it’s continued to grow into a place for gathering, programming, gardening, and connection.

During the summer months, we partner with amazing groups like Lunch Connection, who host community picnics in the parking lot twice a week. It’s become such a fun and lively space for the neighbourhood.

Au cours des dernières années, nous avons planté des plantes vivaces comestibles le long du parking et rempli des bacs à fleurs de tomates, concombres, oignons, fraises et bien d’autres choses encore. Cette année, j’espère pouvoir y ajouter des groseilles ! Nous avons également quelques pommiers et un cerisier qui poussent dans cet espace.

Il y a de nombreuses années, j’ai commencé à peindre le parking pour en faire un espace communautaire plus convivial et accueillant, et depuis, il n’a cessé de se transformer en un lieu de rassemblement, d’activités, de jardinage et de rencontres.

Pendant les mois d’été, nous collaborons avec des groupes formidables comme Lunch Connection, qui organisent des pique-niques communautaires sur le parking deux fois par semaine. C’est devenu un espace tellement agréable et animé pour le quartier.

🌱 What does “better access to healthy food” mean?

In New Brunswick, some communities have limited access to fresh, local, and affordable food. Grocery stores may be far away, and community farms and gardens are sometimes nonexistent. Not to mention the often very high cost of food for families. As a result, people go to the nearest and most affordable places, so they eat less and/or poorly.

To take effective action, we first need to understand the situation on the ground.

Food for All NB is launching a new service to help New Brunswick communities analyze their food systems:
👉 Identify local resources (farms, grocery stores, community gardens)
👉 Understand the barriers
👉 Take action with concrete solutions

The goal? Making food more accessible for everyone.

🌱 Une meilleure accessibilité à l'alimentation saine, ça veut dire quoi?

Au Nouveau-Brunswick, certaines communautés ont un accès limité à des aliments frais, locaux et abordables. Les supermarché peuvent être éloignés et les fermes et jardins communautiares parfois inexistants. Sans parler du coût de l'alimentation souvent très élevé pour les familles. Résultats : la population se rend aux endroits les plus proches et accessibles financièrement donc elle mange moins et-ou mal.

Pour agir efficacement, il faut d’abord comprendre le terrain.

Aliments pour tous NB lance un nouveau service pour aider les collectivités du Nouveau-Brunswick à analyser leur système alimentaire :
👉 Identifier les ressources locales (fermes, épiceries, jardins communautaires)
👉 Comprendre les obstacles
👉 Passer à l’action avec des solutions concrètes

L'objectif ? Une alimentation plus accessible pour tous·tes.
