We love Patricia story 🌱🫶 - PART 2

In 2024, I was given the opportunity to take Community Food Mentor (CFM) training through the Greater Miramichi Service Commission. I jumped at the chance. The knowledge I gained and the connections I made have been invaluable. Since then, we’ve expanded our impact by dedicating garden sections specifically for food pantries, and this year we’ve committed to growing for our local food bank as well.

I love being able to give back in this way, helping improve food security one green bean at a time 😉

This year marks a new chapter as we relocate to a permanent home and begin again. The money will go directly toward moving and expanding the garden so we can continue supporting those who need it most.

On adore l'histoire de Patricia 🌱🫶 - PARTIE 2

En 2024, j’ai eu l’occasion de suivre une formation de mentor alimentaire communautaire (CFM) par l’intermédiaire de la Greater Miramichi Service Commission. J’ai sauté sur l’occasion. Les connaissances que j’ai acquises et les liens que j’ai tissés ont été inestimables. Depuis lors, nous avons élargi notre impact en consacrant des parcelles du jardin spécifiquement aux banques alimentaires, et cette année, nous nous sommes engagés à cultiver également pour notre banque alimentaire locale.

J'adore pouvoir donner en retour de cette manière, en contribuant à améliorer la sécurité alimentaire, un haricot vert à la fois 😉

Cette année marque un nouveau chapitre, puisque nous déménageons dans un lieu permanent et repartons à zéro. L'argent servira directement à financer le déménagement et l'agrandissement du jardin afin que nous puissions continuer à soutenir ceux qui en ont le plus besoin.

We love Patricia story 🫶 🌱 - PART 1

As a Personal Support Worker providing home care, I saw firsthand how many seniors in my community were struggling with food insecurity. It wasn’t something I could ignore. Behind a low-income seniors building where I worked were two large, unused fields and I saw potential.

With a simple idea, a page, and encouragement from both seniors and supportive community members, I started a free, registered non-profit community garden. From the beginning, everything was built on accessibility: no fees, and all seeds, tools, and supplies provided at no cost. The goal was simple, make it possible for anyone to grow food.

Nous adorons l'histoire de Patricia 🫶 🌱 - PARTIE 1

En tant qu’aide à domicile, j’ai pu constater de mes propres yeux combien de personnes âgées de ma communauté étaient confrontées à l’insécurité alimentaire. Je ne pouvais pas fermer les yeux sur cette situation. Derrière l’immeuble pour personnes âgées à faibles revenus où je travaillais se trouvaient deux grands terrains en friche, et j’y ai vu un potentiel.

Avec une idée simple, une page Facebook et les encouragements des personnes âgées et des membres de la communauté, j’ai lancé un jardin communautaire gratuit, enregistré en tant qu’organisme à but non lucratif. Dès le début, tout a été pensé pour être accessible : pas de frais d’inscription, et toutes les semences, les outils et le matériel fournis gratuitement. L’objectif était simple : permettre à tout le monde de cultiver des aliments.
