We live in a world that tells us every symptom has a quick fix.

Tired? Drink more coffee.
Bloated? Take a probiotic.
Hormones “off”? Buy a hormone-balancing supplement.
Not losing weight? Try another diet.
Your friend feels amazing on a supplement? You should probably take it too.

As a naturopathic doctor, I rarely ask, “What supplement should we add first?”

Instead, I ask:
Why is this happening?
What is your body trying to tell us?
What’s driving the symptom in the first place?

Sometimes supplements are absolutely part of the treatment plan. Sometimes they’re not.

The goal isn’t to collect more supplements or follow the latest wellness trend. It’s to understand your body, identify the root cause, and create a plan that’s personalized to you.

Some of the best investments in health are right in front us (and free!)

Wellness isn’t always found in a supplement bottle. It might sound simple, but these health foundations are often underestimated and much more difficult to maintain.

By foundations, I mean:
- a nourishing meal
- going to bed on time
- regular movement
- saying no when you need to
- taking a deep breath
- morning sunlight
- laughter
- time with people you love

Supporting your health doesn’t have to be expensive. Are there times when supplements are needed? Absolutely - but it’s also important to reflect on your foundations first 🌻

A few gentle reminders for this week.
Save for a day you need a little reminder or share it with someone who might need it too 🤍🤍

Supplements can be such helpful tools, however as a Naturopathic Doctor I frequently educate my patients that quality, dosage, form, and even what’s NOT included matter just as much as what’s on the label!

I do not often recommend quickly grabbing something off the store shelves because two products that look the same can have very different effects on the body.

This is why supplement choices are individualized in practice 🫚🍄‍🟫🌿💊

But what happens between oncology appointments? What happens when treatments are over?

That’s where many patients are left with questions about fatigue, sleep, nutrition, stress, treatment side effects, and quality of life.

The goal of integrative cancer care isn’t to replace conventional treatment! It’s to help patients navigate everything in between.

Integrative cancer care bridges conventional oncology with evidence-informed naturopathic medicine to support the whole person throughout their cancer journey. We’re here before, during, and after treatment 🤍

Fatigue isn’t always “just stress.”
Hair loss isn’t always hormonal.
Sometimes, it’s iron 🩸
These are some of the most common symptoms and contributors I see in practice!

Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) is a form of depression that follows a seasonal pattern - most commonly showing up in the fall and winter months when daylight hours decrease ☁️

Less sunlight can disrupt our circadian rhythm, serotonin levels, and melatonin production, all of which play a role in mood, energy, and sleep.

Common SAD symptoms can include:

- Low mood or feeling “flat”
- Fatigue or low motivation
- Increased sleep or difficulty waking
- Sugar/Carb cravings
- Brain fog or difficulty concentrating
- Social withdrawal

Simple lifestyle approaches that may help support mood during darker months:
☀️ Prioritize morning light exposure (natural sunlight when possible) - yes, happy lights/ SAD lamps count!
🚶‍♀️ Gentle daily movement
🕰 Keeping a consistent sleep–wake schedule
🥗 Balanced meals with adequate protein and healthy fats
🧠 Staying socially connected, even when you feel like isolating
🩸 Investigating Vitamin D levels
🕯 Creating cozy, grounding routines that support nervous system regulation

If winter feels harder for you, it’s not a weakness - it’s biology. Small daily habits can make a meaningful difference 🤍
