in , , and are not something to be feared and they also CAN'T be lumped into one bunch. Cyclic siloxanes D4, D5, D6 have very different qualities than something like Dimethicone (polydimethylsiloxane) so if you have concerns avoid anything listed with "cyclo" such as cyclopentasiloxane (D5) or Cyclomethicone.

It's never black or white. Silicones have a good safety profile when it comes to human health, but just like plastics, (silicones are inert polymers), they just never go away. This is where they can become problematic for the environment as many haircare products and cosmetics get washed down the drain.
